𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Annabel Ward. Carolynne's door had been closed, curtains had been drawn, furniture pushed to the walls leaving a single chair in the centre where the coffee table usually sat in the living room. Lucy was ready. The girl was already sitting in the chair and Carolynne was standing in the doorway to the library, leaning slightly on the folded door.
"If she takes any liberties, we're right here, okay?" Lockwood said to Lucy as he held the box with the Source. He waited until she nodded before he opened the box cautiously and dropped the ring that was inside into Lucy's hand and stepped back. He took the spot directly at Carolynne's side, they both sent each other a smile before turning their attention back to Lucy.
"It's okay, Annabel. It's safe," Lucy said softly as her fist closed around the ring. The whole room was deadly silent as they all waited in anticipation for Lucy to give them anything. Carolynne's and Lockwood's hands were millimetres away from each other, it would only take the slightest movement and they'd intertwine.
Carolynne locked her pinky around Lockwood's and the boy turned his face to her, "you okay?"
There was a strong tingle in the ends of her limbs and a dull ache in her chest, despair laying heavy and thick. "She's here," the girl whispered quietly. Lockwood moved his hand and Carolynne almost felt her mood dull until he intertwined all of their fingers and gave her hand a squeeze.
