*Lumi*
As we get ready for the appointment, I can see the worry painted across Zac's face. He's been so nervous ever since we found out about my leukemia, and now that we're expecting our first child, his concern has only grown."Zac, I promise I've been feeling so much better since starting the new medicine," I reassure him, as we both get dressed. He nods, but his eyes still hold a hint of fear.
"I know, Lumi, it's just that... I can't help but worry about you and the baby," he admits, his voice trembling slightly.
I walk over to him, placing a gentle hand on his cheek. "We're in this together, remember? And the doctors are keeping a close eye on us. We'll be okay."
He takes a deep breath and nods again, pulling me into a tight embrace. I can feel his heart racing, and I know that he's trying to be strong for both of us.
We arrive at the clinic hand in hand, and check in at the reception desk. First I have to go to the nurse, having blood drawn, so the doctor can check everything before we are called into his office.
The waiting room is filled with the soft hum of conversations and the rustling of magazines. Zac's leg bounces up and down in anticipation, his nervous energy palpable. I give his hand a comforting squeeze, and he smiles faintly, acknowledging my support.
As we continue to wait, I try to distract him with small talk, discussing our plans for the nursery and how excited Meri and I are to be having sons around the same time. His leg gradually stops bouncing, and he starts to engage in the conversation, a glimmer of excitement showing in his eyes.
Finally, our names are called, and we make our way back to the examination room. The doctor greets us warmly and begins to go over my numbers. Zac holds his breath, his hands gripping mine tightly as we wait for the results.
"Everything looks great, Lumi". The doctor says, beaming. "Your leukemia is responding well to the new treatment, and I don't expect any problems with the baby either. But let's do an ultrasound just to be sure, shall we ?"
I glance at Zac, and I can see the relief washing over him like a tidal wave. His shoulders relax, and he finally manages to let out the breath he has been holding. His grip on my hand eases, and he gives me an appreciative smile.
As the doctor prepares the ultrasound equipment, Zac and I exchange excited glances, knowing that we will soon be getting another glimpse of our little one. The doctor applies the cool gel to my belly, and the room fills with the sound of the baby's heartbeat. Zac's eyes widen with wonder, and I can feel the love radiating from him as we watch the screen.
The doctor carefully examines the images, pointing out our baby's features and reassuring us that everything looks perfectly normal. With each passing moment, Zac's nerves seem to fade away, replaced by pure joy and anticipation.
The doctor then proceeds to check the baby, and as we watch the ultrasound, Zac's eyes are filled with tears. Our little one is growing healthily, and I can't help but get emotional, knowing that we're going to be parents soon.
After the appointment, we walk out of the clinic hand in hand, our hearts full of love and hope for the future. The journey ahead may be filled with its fair share of challenges, but we know that together, we can conquer anything.
As we drive back home, Zac is transformed. He can't stop chatting happily, recalling every detail of the ultrasound with vivid enthusiasm. "Did you see how the baby waved its tiny hand ? And those little feet! I can't wait to show Tom and Meri the new ultrasound pictures. They are going to love them".
I can't help but smile at his exuberance. It's infectious, and I find myself feeling even more excited than before. Seeing him this happy makes my heart swell with love and gratitude. He truly is the most adorable man I have ever known.
"Hey, Wookie". I tease him, using the affectionate nickname I have for him.
Zac raises an eyebrow and chuckles, momentarily pausing in his animated description of our baby's features. "What's up, Lumi ?"
"You know, I just wanted to say how much I love seeing you like this... so happy and excited". I tell him sincerely. "It reminds me that no matter what challenges we face, we will always have each other to lean on and share these incredible moments".
Zac's eyes soften, and he reaches over to squeeze my hand. "I love you too, Lumi. And I can't wait for us to start this new chapter in our lives together, as parents".
With that, we continue driving home, hand in hand, excitedly discussing our future as a family and all the wonderful memories we're going to create with our little one.
