It’s been six months since our marriage. Jungkook has become busier with his business. Of course, he’s Jeon Jungkook — the name that now dominates every business headline. His company is the number one in Korea, the most luxurious and influential firm. With that, he has gained even more fame, not just for his success but also for his striking visuals that media can’t stop obsessing over.
But amidst all this, we’ve drifted apart silently. We no longer share meals or quiet mornings together. He leaves early, comes home late, and in between, I’m left filling my day with chores and hollow conversations with myself. I did make a new friend, though. Yuri. She’s sweet, always manages to distract me during lunch breaks at the office. At least with her, I don’t feel invisible.
Today, I returned home early, alone. As I stepped into the living room, my mother-in-law was entertaining guests. Two unfamiliar faces sat beside her, chatting away.
“Y/N,” mom called me with a warm smile. I walked towards them, putting on my best polite expression. “Meet my best friend Yunhi and her daughter Jia.”
I bowed respectfully. Yunhi aunty smiled kindly. “Omo, your daughter-in-law is so pretty!” she gushed. But my eyes involuntarily flickered to Jia. She was... flawless. Elegant, confident, and she hadn’t even said a word yet. Her beauty was a silent declaration.
---
Later that evening, I stood on the balcony, lost in thoughts about my life that seemed to revolve around routines. I sighed and made my way to the kitchen for dinner. But then I heard a loud, excited squeal from the living room. I turned back and my heart clenched.
Jungkook was home. And in his arms was Jia.
“Oh my god, Kookie, you’ve become so handsome!” she giggled, her arms still around him.
“You’ve become even more beautiful,” Jungkook replied with a soft smile.
I don’t know why... but those words sliced through me. He’s never said that to me—not once. I told myself it doesn’t matter, but it does. It really does.
I quietly slipped into the kitchen.
“Ajumma, what’s for dinner?” I asked softly.
“Oh, Y/N, I made Jungkook’s favourite dish today,” she smiled.
Of course. His favourite. For a moment, I wondered if he’d even notice it was his favourite.
“Y/N, are you okay?” Ajumma asked, sensing my silence.
“Yes, I’m fine,” I lied, offering her a small smile that didn’t reach my eyes.
---
Dinner felt like a formality. Jungkook sat between me and Jia, but his attention was entirely on her. They laughed, reminisced about old memories, while I quietly ate my food, smiling occasionally at father-in-law who noticed my silence.
“Y/N, are you alright?” Mr. Jeon asked gently, leaning towards me.
“Yes, Appa. Here, try this dish. It’s really tasty,” I said, serving him with a polite smile. He gave my hand a comforting pat, as if he knew I needed it.
After dinner, I helped Ajumma with the dishes, pretending everything was fine.

When I returned to the room, Jungkook was already fast asleep. He must’ve been exhausted. I lay down beside him, the distance between us on the bed felt more like an ocean. I turned my back towards him, whispering a silent goodnight to myself.
---
The next morning, being a weekend, I decided to make breakfast for everyone. The house was quieter today, yet I knew it wouldn’t last. Just as I was finishing up, I heard Jungkook’s voice calling me. I wiped my hands and hurried to our room.
He was standing in front of the mirror, buttoning up his shirt in a sharp formal suit.
“Jungkook?” I called.
He looked at me, his tie hanging loosely. “Y/N, I have an important live interview today.”
“But it’s the weekend…” I muttered, almost hoping he’d change his mind.
“I know, but this is crucial,” he said, his tone final. I just nodded.
“Breakfast?” I asked, already knowing the answer.
“I’m running late,” he said, grabbing his coat and hurrying out.
---
Later, the whole family gathered in the living room to watch his live interview. Even Jia was excited, sitting beside Mom.
“Mr. Jeon, how does it feel to lead Korea’s number one company?” the interviewer asked.
Jungkook smiled, his eyes twinkling. “It feels surreal. But it’s all thanks to my incredible team who’ve worked tirelessly. I’m just the face; they’re the backbone.”
“Mr. Jeon, on a personal note, are you single?” the interviewer teased, causing the crowd to cheer.
Jungkook chuckled and raised his hand, flashing his wedding ring. “I’m married. To Mrs. Jeon Y/N,” he announced with pride.
The studio erupted into applause. I smiled faintly. He said my name. But why did it still feel hollow?
---
After the interview, I retreated to the balcony, sat on the sofa. The wind was gentle, but my heart felt heavy.
“I don’t know what I did wrong to be unloved,” I thought, staring at the endless sky. “For years, I was fine being alone. But now, I crave to be seen. I think I like Jungkook. Maybe I’m falling for him, but he… he’s perfect. He deserves someone better. Jia is better. More beautiful, more fitting.”
I closed my eyes, suppressing the ache in my chest.
Suddenly, a gentle hand cupped my cheek. My eyes fluttered open to see Jungkook kneeling beside me, concern painting his face.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, masking my emotions.
“You’re crying, Y/N,” he whispered, wiping a tear I didn’t realise had fallen.
I touched my cheek, embarrassed. “It’s nothing, just a bad dream.”
He sighed, pulling my hand into his. “Did you eat anything?”
“Yeah… I did,” I lied.
“We’re going out. Me and Jia are going for a drive,” he said casually.
A lump formed in my throat. “No, Jungkook. I have some work to finish.”
He didn’t insist. He just nodded. “Okay.”
He left.
And I sat there, wondering why it hurt this much to be left behind.
