[Read my first oneshot in this book. Literally gtfo. I've grown so much jfc.]
"Sakazuki? It's been awhile. Just wanted to say that I miss you, and I'm going to be home soon!" You said into the transponder snail, a sad smile on your face.
"I hope that I can make it. It's been a few hours and the wind hasn't picked up. I think I'm stuck here. It's all my fault."
You looked up at the sky, praying to the gods.
"They're all dead."
...................................................
You gasped for air as you shot up from the hospital bed, tears running down your cheeks as you recalled all the memories from that mission.
Everything went so wrong.
The pirates wouldn't stop coming. Blackbeard pirates. You had done all that you could, and eventually fell to the captain himself.
None of it was important anymore. You protected your shipmates as long as you could, and ultimately failed to that fucking devil fruit.
You balled your hands into a fist, clenching your teeth as tears threatened to spill.
You could hear Sakazuki now. 'Weak.' 'Pathetic.' 'Waste of space.' You wanted to end it all. Nothing hurt worse than watching everything fall to pieces around you, and when you get back, all you can look forward to for the next month is being talked down to.
At least, that's what you thought that would happen.
Sengoku came through the door first, in his Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts, and sat by your side. He glanced at your bruised and injured body. It wasn't bad, since it was Marshall D. Teach, (he didn't really fight all too good without using the devil fruit,) but you still had fractured ribs from being stomped on, and other sorts of bludgeoning wounds.
You began to cry, nothing was worse than watching the face of one of your closest friends morph into such worry. "How bad is it?" You croaked, tears streaming down your face.
"At least a month, y/n, Maybe longer. You can't rush these things. No matter how strong you want to seem. Rest and taking care of yourself is the only thing that can do to redeem yourself." He murmured, scooting closer to you.
He was dissapointed that Sakazuki sent you on that mission. Sakazuki knew that you hadn't studied the devil fruit enough. You didn't know what you were up against, but you held your own and protected your shipmates, and some had escaped. (Not that you know that though.)
That's what mattered.
Garp was the next one who entered the room, bustling in with crackers and a couple sodas that the doctors approved.
"Hey kid. I know you're probably feeling pretty shitty, but I brought you some snacks." He grinned, setting them on the table next to you.
Slowly collecting yourself, you gave him the best smile you could muster, which happened to be the saddest, lip-quivering smile those two had ever seen.
"Thank you Garp." You said softly, taking the soda with gentle hands.
He opened it before letting you take it, pulling up a chair afterwards.
"Its okay, yknow. Sometimes we aren't prepared to handle things, and I know I'm being a hypocrite, and id be totally lying if I said rest would be the best for you- I think you should really think about taking it easy. You overwork yourself. Take the month, y/n. You deserve it." He lectured, giving you a light fist of love on the head. He really didn't want to give you another concussion.
Borsalino came in next, giving you a knowing smile. "Oiii~ you're awake."
You nodded, setting down your drink to pop a bland cracker in your mouth.
He chuckled. "I heard you did really good out there. I'm so prouddd~ just a little more training, and you'll be set." He said encouragingly, pulling up a chair next to sengoku.
Sengoku and garp both agreed.
"You were obviously unprepared, and that-"
"Listen." You began. "Its not the time to be lecturing me. I know I'm weak. Okay? Sakazuki is already going to remind me for the rest of my recovery."
They all looked at eachother, before laughing. "Oh. You're funny." Sengoku chuckled, the other two agreeing in unison.
"Ohhh~ that's what I came here for. Sakazuki is coming to meet with her. So we better leave." He said with a knowing smile, leaving in a beam of light.
The other two gave you a light hug before waving and making their way out.
You waved sweetly, but looked up at the ceiling when they were gone. Were you getting let go? Fired? Killed?
Your head swirled in a labyrinth of anxieties and panic before you heard the door click.
You drew your attention through the door, seeing that hulk of a man wall through it.
"Good morning, Fleet Admiral Sakazuki." You said softly, already feeling the tears rising up.
He nodded in response, grabbing a chair and pulling it up beside you.
"I heard about what happened. Did you know that most of his crew is dead, and most of yours swam and got away?" He asked, looking down at you.
You looked over at him in shock. "What?"
"Yes. You were so busy protecting everyone, you barely saw those who got away, and barely remember who you killed in the process." He analyzed you carefully, every bone in your smaller body seemed weak.
"I'd take that months rest, Y/n." He began, looking at you with an intense gaze. "You're not weak, but you still have much to learn. I realize that you were unprepared for that mission, but I do not apologize for sending you on it. You've opened your mind to justice, and I hope you see it my way."
You nodded. "I never want that to happen again. I won't let that happen again."
The corners of his mouth lifted. " a strong way to think. After recovery, I want you to come see me everyday. Get my lunch and join me. I'll show you some things."
You nodded. "Yes, sir."
He reached down, patting your head. His hand was warm. "Good." His face turned stoic again, grabbing a cigar from his pocket before he stood up.
"I'll be coming regularly to ensure you're not here longer than needed." He said, glancing down at you.
You nodded. "I look forward to it."
He grunted, making his way to the door, and then he left.
You smiled, looking to your bedside table. Flowers sat there, red and in bloom. When did they get there?? He must have snuck them behind his back.
They say get well soon, and you hope that you do. You look forward to him visiting, and eventually visiting him too.
[Honestly. Thinking of doing a slow burn book with him.]
