[Why is Kamski here, of all places?!]

Awkward silence fell between Connor and the pair still waiting at the open door. He was, of course, blocking them from coming inside. When he didn't speak, Kamski glanced from him to the android by his side, his beloved Chloe. All she could do was shrug a bit to him before he realized that something was seriously wrong. "Very well, then. Connor. Is the lady of the house here?"

Taking a second to convince himself that the pair were really and truly in front of him, the detective finally stepped back and aside.

"Ah, there we go, much better." Closing the front door again, Kamski eyed Connor again, but his vague smile was gone. "I'll ask for details in a moment, right now I need to speak with her."

In the relative safety of the bedroom, you heard another male voice, and it wasn't that of the bastard prototype. No, it was someone with an ego as massive as the empire he'd built. Still, Elijah was a friend, and you unlocked your door to venture back out.

Except you made a beeline for Chloe instead, embracing her tightly. For her part, she seemed equally as happy to see you again.

Chuckling quietly, Kamski stuffed his hands into his pockets, having had to move out of your way when you approached. "It's always been like this," he explained, gazing over at Connor nearby. "Like magnets, these two. But then again, I don't trust anyone else maintaining my girl."

Left in the dark again, all Connor could do was watch the reunion unfold. He was the outsider here, but how you knew them was a question he'd have to ask.

Finally you pried yourself away from the other female. "Eli, what the hell are you doing here, just showing up out of nowhere? You're lucky you didn't get shot!"

His eyebrows went high. "Shot? Interesting." He looked at the other male dead in the eyes. "Would you have shot me?"

"I... no. No, I wouldn't have shot you," Connor replied, uneasy again.

"There we go, save the bullets for someone that deserves them." His eyes turned onto you again. "I tried calling two days ago and there was no response. The calls weren't returned, either, yet here you are, in good health. So tell me--" The stitches in your arms had caught his attention, and his haughty self-serving attitude dropped like a bag of rocks. Kamski came close, taking your hands so your arms were lifted a little, so the mended wounds could be seen better. "...... what happened?"

Opening your mouth to respond, your lower lip shook, and you clamped your mouth shut again. One of your hands were taken into Chloe's, who looked over the stitches as well. "How badly are you hurt?" she asked softly.

"My arms... aren't bad. The stitches just look obvious, that's all..." you whispered. Anything louder and you were liable to break down again.

".... was it him?" Kamski already seemed to know who'd attacked you, so when you nodded his expression turned to one of dismay. "Damn... no wonder you didn't answer. I'm sorry. What went wrong with the software?"

"Eli, I don't want to talk about it right now," you shot back, "he assaulted me and I don't know where the fuck he went. Now drop it."

Chloe pulled you into another hug, one you gratefully accepted. Kamski, on the other hand, stepped away a little, running a hand down his face before catching the gaze of your bodyguard. "So is that why you're here? Protection?"

"I've been assigned to guard her until the suspect is caught. We have the description we need, but it is possible that she is his only target." Hands behind his back, Connor had to break the staredown he was stuck in with Kamski. He ended up watching you interact with the other female. It felt incredibly familial, so you'd clearly known them for some time.

While he watched you, Kamski was watching Connor. His ego may have been giant, but his heart was in the right place, and his big head held a strong intuition. The detective android, who was very much self-aware, wasn't as developed with emotions as he could have been. Connecting the lines was simple; now he just had to guide the android in the right direction.

He cleared his throat, turning his attention back to you once you'd settled. "I'm sorry for dropping by unannounced. Once this whole thing is taken care of, I'm sure you'll be able to relax again. However... if you're willing to take a minute to help, Chloe needs a little maintenance. And you know I don't trust anyone else with that software."

Your face was full of concern. Before you could ask anything, the female android smiled and shook her head a touch. "It's not an emergency. I just lost a little feeling in one of my legs. I can still walk, but the capacity seems to be at 75%."

Nodding, you led her by the hand towards the basement. "If it's not complete numbness, it's probably a minor bug. I can whip up a patch to fix it, but I'll run a full diagnosis just in case, so it doesn't spread."

As the two of you made your way to the lab, Kamski quietly shut the door again, smiling. Unsurprisingly, he found the other android lost at sea, so to speak. "Something on your mind?"

"Chloe is an android, yes?" Kamski nodded. "Then how is she describing having lost feeling? That's not... that's not possible."

Connor was struck with some powerful deja vu as Elijah Kamski himself came close again, with that same vague smile. "Chloe is... a unique model in several ways. You know that she was the first to pass the Turing test. She, of course, also passed my Kamski test. Self aware, and a strong sense of empathy for others." Slowly, he began to pace around the android. "But, you see, that's really only the beginning. What do you do when you create the perfect being?" He stopped walking, directly in front of Connor, staring him down. "You perfect it even more. My Chloe is one of two androids who have the sense of touch. Not only can she feel temperature differences, but she can feel just about anything a human can." His smile widened a tiny bit. "You really need to start asking questions, Connor. Learn about other people. Find out what makes them tick." There was a pause. "Didn't you ever want to know just what she works on down there, all day?"
