I'm asleep when Klaus gets home from his flight. After Elena killed Connor, the Salvatore brothers took her and Jeremy home while I went back to my place. Tyler was there, along with Hayley and the rest of the hybrids, but I ignored them. I headed upstairs to take a shower and spend most of the afternoon in bed stressing about what was going to happen next.

You would think that I'd have trouble falling asleep considering everything that's been going on but I actually find myself drifting off fairly easily. I'm only stirred from my deep slumber by the sensation of someone climbing into bed next to me.

"Morning, pup," Klaus says in a husky voice as he slides up against my back, wrapping his arms comfortingly around my waist and kissing my head.

"It's not morning," I grumble, still half asleep. "The sun isn't even out."

Despite my grumpiness, I still roll over so that I can kiss him properly. His lips press sweetly against mine as his arms tighten around my waist, pulling my torso against his.

"Did you miss me?" he asks quietly, kissing down my jaw to nuzzle in the curve of my neck.

"Mhm. Was I supposed to?" I ask with a grin.

"Yes," Klaus says darkly.

"Why? Did you miss me?"

"Undoubtedly," he says, kissing and sucking at a particularly sensitive part of my neck and causing me to moan softly. "Next time I leave town I'm taking you with me."

"Please," I sigh, my eyes fluttering closed. "Take me anywhere at this point."

Klaus must sense the tension in my voice because he pulls away to meet my eyes.

"What is it, my love?"

"We lost Connor," I tell him. The words are so quiet that I'm not sure a normal person would have been able to hear them.

Klaus' response isn't what I expect. Instead of getting angry or expressing his disappointment in me he simply reaches forward to tuck a lock if hair behind my ear.

"I heard."

"And you're okay with that?"

"We have time," he assures me. "We'll find another hunter."

I pull away slightly to get a better look at Klaus' face. He was only gone a couple of days but I feel like he's changed so much. In the ways a vampire can change, of course.

"You, Klaus Mikaelson, are okay with something that didn't go your way? Are you sure you're feeling alright?"

I reach forward to put my hand on his forehead like I'm checking his temperature and Klaus laughs.

"I assure you, pup, I feel quite fine."

"Really? No one switched you out with a more laid back immortal hybrid?"

"That doesn't exist. No one's more laid back than me."

The seriousness in his face when he says it causes me to break down in a fit of laughter.

"What?" Klaus asks, grinning as me and pulling me closer to him as I continue to giggle. "You don't think I can relax?"

"I don't think I've ever even seen you try to relax," I tell him.

"I'm always too busy chasing you around," Klaus says. "You drive me crazy and you never listen."

"Wow," I say, pretending to be hurt. "If I'm really that bad then maybe you should take a break from me."

"Nice try," Klaus says. He leans in so that his lips are just a few centimeters from mine. I can feel his breath ghosting against them when he speaks. "You're mine, whether you drive me crazy or not."
