On Saturday morning, Bonnie picks me up and we head to meet Caroline in town square. It's the first event of the season for the historical society and naturally, with my mom being the Mayor, I got roped into helping. I tried to get Tyler to come but he offered me some vague excuse on his way out the door. I decided to let it go, not necessarily interested in knowing what he's up to anyway.

Once we arrive, Bonnie and I greet Elena and meet up with Caroline to start hanging decorations in some of the trees around the square. We chat as we work, Bonnie filling Caroline and I in on the events from the bonfire.

"Vicki Donovan tried to kill Elena?" I ask as I reach up the ladder to hand Bonnie a decoration. "Why? How?"

"She made a deal with someone on the other side," Bonne explains. "Someone who allowed her to get a physical grip on this plane so that she could do what she wanted. Jeremy told me that Anna said it was a witch. Someone super old and super powerful. I had to do a spell to make sure that she couldn't access us anymore."

"Wait, Anna? Is Jeremy still seeing her?"

"Yeah, didn't the spell you cast to send Vicki away get rid of Anna too?" Caroline asks.

"I wish. All it did was block the magic that was helping Vicki get a physical foothold here. Jeremy can still interact with the other side because he died so as long as Anna wants to see him and he wants to see her..."

She finishes with her branch and climbs down the ladder so we can move it.

"Jeremy is an idiot," I say. "He shouldn't want to see her."

"Well he does," she huffs, an irritated look on her face. When she notices our expressions she sighs, throwing her hands up in the air. "What do you want me to do? I went against the balance of nature when I brought him back to life. I have to face the consequences."

"Yeah, but this can't be what-"

I'm interrupted by the sound of a car pulling up next to us. Damon looks over from the front seat of his convertible, glaring at Bonnie.

"Greetings, blondie. She wolf."

"Ass," I mutter.

"Witchy. I think you got your voodoo wires crossed when you got rid of Vicki Donovan."

"Why?" Bonnie asks, setting down her decorations and approaching him. "What do you mean?"

"I'm pretty sure that I just got spit-roasted by Mason Lockwood's ghost."

"Uncle Mason?" My eyes go wide in surprise and I step past Bonnie, looking at Damon. "What makes you think that it was him?"

"Maybe because he chained me to a chair and shoved a hot poker through my chest."

He says this nonchalantly, but I catch his eyes flicker over to me for a split second. I cross my arms, glaring at him. We never really talk about the fact that Damon killed my uncle. It was a really tough situation for me, Mason being the only person I could talk to about being a wolf but also threatening my friends. Despite the face that we'd gotten past it, I can tell that the subject is still sensitive for both of us.

"I thought you said that ghosts couldn't interact physically on this plane anymore?" Caroline asks turning to Bonnie.

"They can't."

"Tell that to Mason," Damon says. "Whatever you did, fix this. I don't have time for this. Whenever I kill someone, they're supposed to stay dead. Hey, what are you doing?"

I move to the other side of the car, opening the door and getting into the passenger seat. He stares at me as I shut the door behind me and look at him expectantly.
