"How's the hairball situation treating you?" Y/N inquired with a smirk as she settled beside Hermione in the infirmary. Hermione had been confined there for several days, her appearance gradually returning to its usual state. Madam Pomfrey had been diligent in protecting Hermione's privacy during this time.
Hermione responded with a touch of sarcasm, "Oh, just splendid," as she playfully rolled her eyes. Y/N couldn't help but chuckle.
"Admit it, you made an adorable cat," Y/N teased with a light hum. Hermione's face had returned to normal, showcasing her fair, freckled skin that Y/N had always admired. However, her cat-like ears and tail remained.
Hermione feigned disgust, saying, "Please, spare me."
Y/N persisted, "You really shouldn't be buried in homework right now. The professors are well aware you've been under the weather." A stack of books sat nearby, a testament to Hermione's determination.
Hermione argued, "Just because I briefly turned into a cat doesn't mean I should neglect my studies." Y/N sighed but acknowledged her friend's dedication with a nod. Hermione's determination to continue studying even in her unusual state didn't surprise Y/N. After all, Hermione was known for her dedication to academics.
"You're something else, Granger," Y/N chuckled, shaking her head. "But seriously, take a break. You've been through a lot."
Hermione sighed, setting her books aside. "I suppose you're right. It's just frustrating not being able to do anything about the Chamber of Secrets."
Y/N nodded sympathetically. "We'll figure it out. Harry and Ron are still looking into it, and we'll help in any way we can once you're back on your feet."
Hermione smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Y/N. You're a good friend."
Y/N grinned. "Well, I do my best. Now, let's get you some rest. Those cat naps must've been exhausting."
"Wait, Y/N. Actually... I, uhm..." Hermione stumbled over her words, and Y/N halted in her attempt to rise from her chair, immediately settling back down.
"Yeah?" Y/N asked, tilting her head in curiosity.
Hermione began tentatively, "You know, you shouldn't visit me every day. It feels like you've spent all your free time here. You should hang out with the others..."
"I want to be with you," Y/N interjected.
Hermione blinked in surprise, and Y/N's cheeks turned a shade of pink as she realized the need to clarify. "Not like that—I mean, I want to be by your side because you're my friend."
"Oh," Hermione murmured, her expression softening.
Y/N sighed in frustration with herself. "I want your company, Hermione. You're my friend, and I enjoy spending time with you. I'm making this awkward, aren't I?" She groaned, hiding her face in her hands, overwhelmed with embarrassment.
