Chapter 9
The first few days of our job we studied the land, the people, the leadership. Namjoon was on a video call with a woman, I really didn't care. I put my heart aside, I needed to feel numb. It was almost time for us to temporarily be a couple. That made me nervous. I wasn't meaning ease drop, but I happened to walk by when they were talking.
"Namjoon, you never gave us a chance, you haven't tried to maintain a conversation with me, since you left the wedding. I know you don't have serious girlfriends; I don't understand why. You said something about in a year, you would go public with someone if it worked out that way. I was hoping I was that someone." Namjoon shook his head, I didn't blame her for wanting that with him, he really was a sweet guy under all that bad boy exterior.
"It's not that I haven't tried, believe me. This job is going to change things for me, and I would rather end things now, than hurt you even more down the road. I won't be back for a little bit." The woman on the other end heard him but she was kind of snarky.
"I.M is single he's been fucking around. Although he doesn't keep the same girl around, I'm okay with that. At least I know what I would be getting out of him." My heart was aching. I seen what he meant a while ago, how we were going to see each other's real sides. I was trying to heal in a healthy way, he was doing it in his own way. I knew it was time to let the old me out. Namjoon hung up the call walking towards me. I walked off, he knew what was coming. It wasn't Namjoon I wanted, but thanks to this job he was the only option.
I walked out of the house we were staying in; I needed some air. I didn't realize how long I had been walking, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being followed, I could see a black car in the reflection of the grocer's window, driving slowly. I went to turn the corner, but the car door opened, an arm pulling me in. I went to fight back, they were blocking each hit, when I finally seen who it was, I glared. Pushing him away from me.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I scowled.
"I needed to see you." Changkyun looked like he hadn't slept.
"Don't you have other bitches you need to go see? Leave me alone..." he sighed.
"They don't mean anything, you ended things with us, you are the one that cut me off." He wasn't wrong.
"So, keep moving on, and l will do the same." Changkyun took my hand in his.
"I don't want you to move on, I don't want to move on either... I just want time, please give me time." He kissed my hand, I slapped him.
"Why would I give you time? Look I have a job to go do, and seeing you makes me look forward to it." I didn't mean a word I said, he knew it.
"Your mouth maybe lethal baby, but your eyes tell me differently." Changkyun moved closer towards me, I couldn't help but scoff, these tricks wouldn't work on me anymore. Namjoon had placed a tracker on my phone. Right when Changkyuns was going to kiss me. Namjoon opened the door, peaking his head in. Looking at the situation in the backseat of the car. He wasn't even surprised Changkyun was here, he just wanted me out of the vehicle.
"I.M you need to give her space, you handle things the way you feel you need too, I will take over from here. When she comes back you two have a conversation." Namjoon helped me out of the car. "You will thank me later Haven, from this point on you are my priority." I was so tired if men, making it seem like I was helpless, when I had been doing most of this by myself. I took a step back trying to calm down. Namjoon and I walked back to our temporary house, taking my hand, startling me slightly twining our fingers together. This was new for him; he had never had a serious relationship.
