Nikolai POV
"Perfect let's proceed shall we."
I watch as Doctor Verenich opens his black leather case and pulls out a few pieces of equipment to examine Leonora, who is anxiously playing with her fingers. Her leg starts to bounce up and down before her lip comes to bite at her lower lip. I should be the one biting her lower lip. No. Nope. Stop.
"Could you perhaps sit up a bit Leonora, so I can check on you?" He asks, leaning forward slightly, turning to look at me as if seeking for my permission. I agree standing up to give him greater access to Leonora. Doctor Verenich lays his instruments on the bed before approaching her with a warm grin.
"So Leonora I'm just going to check over your cuts and bruises okay? Super easy. Are you in pain anywhere?" I watch as Leonora shakes her head yes, causing my heart to slow somewhat. I don't like the idea of her being in pain, and from the few things she's said to me, she hasn't had much human interaction.
She can't even form a correct grammatical sentence, which makes me want to torture Dietrich even more. I'll be the one to help her open up, to make her feel more at ease, and to whom she can talk too when she needs to.
She had no idea what the tiny flower pot by her window was. I mean, it makes sense that she's been kept away for the most of her life, since whatever age. But it still makes me angry to think about it.
"Can you tell me where?" He asks Leonora as I was brought out of my thoughts looking towards Leonora who's eyes meet mine, her eyes pleading for help.
I give her a reassuring nod and go in as near as I can without blocking Doctor Verenich's way, my eyes still on hers. I take her hand in mine, letting the soft feeling of her fingers wrap around my thumb, her other hand tracing the tattoos on my hand.
I observe as she clumsily gestures to her left leg, which is covered behind her baggy clothes... well my baggy clothes. She then takes her hands back and points to her ribcage pointing to either side. Shit did I hurt her much when I picked her up earlier.
"All right, I'm going to ask you to lie down so I can check. Is that ok?" He responds, taking a step closer to Leonora, who shuffles over the bed, wincing every now and again. I can see she's attempting to hide her anguish, but I can see right through that mask, and I despise it.
"Let's begin with your leg." Doctor Verenich adds as he rolls up her baggy pants to her knee. I observe black bruises and swelling that weren't present when I discovered her the other day. Her ankle had about doubled in size, and her leg was practically purple and black at this point. I clench my fists at my sides knowing he did this.
I watch as Doctor Verenich moves her knee and ankle as she whimpers, her hands grasping the bed sheet so tightly I'm surprised she hadn't ripped it. I moved round to her side and clutched one of her hands in mine, as her nails dig into my flesh, drawing a little bit of blood. But I still don't move away.
