Nikolai POV
"You have a family. We all do Leonora. We just don't where they are."
That's probably the biggest truth and lie I've ever told someone. The truth because Leonora does have a family, she does, and she will meet them soon. I just couldn't tell who they were.
Your probably thinking well why tell her we don't know where they are. Well that's because we have no clue. The last thing we heard from them was when they contacted us about the mole, after they were telling us they were moving. No messages. No calls since. They just wont answer us. I was going to phone this morning to tell them. I decided I couldn't hold it in anymore after what Leonora said, but they wouldn't pick up. And I've tried.... like five times.
We talked about it in my father's office earlier. About the Bernardi's. The new threat that Michael told us about. Let's just he's not happy. We are currently being left so deep in the dark that it's getting hard to find the light. The hope.
So now I'm holding Leonora tightly to my chest as she writhes around. Another nightmare plaguing her sleep. I hate this. Not being able to do anything but hold her. I try to wake her up but it's like she's so lost that she can't find her way back out again.
I bring the blanket up dabbing the sweat accumulating on her forehead, wiping the strands of hair away from her face which had stuck to her forehead. My arms tightening around her when I notice the tears tracking down her cheeks. There's got to be something I can do.
"Leonora." I whisper, lightly shaking her hoping it will wake her up but nothing. I whisper sweet nothings in her ear, hoping she'll be able to hear through the deep blanket of sleep.
My phone vibrates in my pocket as I take it out looking at the text Micah just sent me. We're supposed to be going to a meeting in a few minutes with some people in our gang about the new information Michael gave us.
Placing my phone on the side I look back to Leonora. I can't just leave her like this. Lifting her up I place her on my lap, rocking her back and forth gently. Her body fitting against mine so perfectly. I'd keep her in my arms forever if I could.
"It's okay baby. Wake up. Your safe." I whisper continuing to rock her back and forth, her cries starting to diminish slightly, as small sniffles escape her.
"That's it baby. Come back to me. Your safe." I say, pressing my cheek against the top of her head, holding her so tightly I'm scared I might break her.
"N-Nikolai?" Her voice whispers out, causing me to sigh in relief, her arms coming up to wrap around my neck.
"I hate seeing you like that." I say, Leonora's sniffles dying down as she silently cries against my chest. My heart breaking at the sight.
