Zemblanity: - the inevitable discovery of what we would rather not know; the opposite of serendipity.
Nikolai POV
"They have a lead on Dietrich."
My heart stops, the atmosphere becoming tense, as the silence takes over. When I realised what my father had meant, I turned to face Leonora. I mean he had her imprisoned in a cell since she was a child. When I look over, she just seems bewildered, searching between us for an explanation, before moving her attention back to a sugar loaded Alexei. His hands grab at multiple cookies before handing them to Leonora, who smiles at him leaving a light kiss on his forehead.
Why is she so cute?
So Leonora really has no idea who the man who has given her all this agony and grief is. My father seemed to have realised the same thing, his gaze meeting mine quickly before looking away.
That's another thing. I still need to talk to Leonora and see if she wants to talk to anybody. We can see how much physical damage he's done, I hate to think about the mental damage he's done.
"Why don't we talk about this in my office?" All of us nodded as I moved over to Leonora and Alexei's side. My hand coming in contact with Alexei's back.
"Alexei can you do me a favour while I'm gone." I say crouching down, so my eyes meet his while he sits on the chair in the kitchen, chocolate smudged around his face and hands.
"Yeah Lai Lai?" Alexei says still munching on his cookie.
"Well I need someone to look after Leonora while I'm gone okay? I need you to be the man of the house. Can you do that?" I ask, watching as Alexei stops munching before turning towards me with a huge grin, causing me to chuckle.
"Yeah Lai Lai I promise! I'll look after Nora, I'm a man." I swear my brother is such a cutie. Yes I may be a scary mafia man, but I can say confidently that my brother is a cutie.
Messing up his hair, I stand up chuckling before moving over to Leonora who has a small smile on her face. Approaching her I grab her hand feeling the soft skin brush against mine, little tingles running across my skin.
"I won't be long. You go and get some rest for me okay?" I ask, watching as she nods before placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
I force myself away from the kitchen with one last glance and approach my father's office, where everyone has just gathered. I know that whatever my father has to say will not be good. Especially coming from the Bernardi family We're already taking a great risk by not informing them about Leonora. But I'm determined to give Leonora time to heal and adjust before she meets them.
"How bad?" I hear Micah ask, as I open the door making my way over to them, my body leaning against the wall with my arms crossed.
"Well... they have good news... and bad news." My father replies, sitting down tensely in his office hair, my mother massaging his shoulders, whilst he lets out a sigh.
