Winslow
"No we're not." I chuckle.
There's absolutely no way.
"What?" Maverick blinks at me.
"I'm not going on a mission with him as long as you want your son alive. I'm really sorry sir." I lean back on my chair and cross my hands. Everett looks at my way, his jaw clenching. I just grin at him.
"Wait, did something happen? I thought you guys were friends or something." Maverick looks worried and I look away.
"I thought we were becoming friends too, but your son here is stupider than he seems. Sorry again sir." I glance at Everett and narrow my eyes when I realised he hasn't taken his eyes off me.
"What did you do, Everett?" His dad asks him but he continues staring at me like he wants to devour me alive. I turn away from him and focus on his dad,
"When the file got stolen he suspected me and then secretly got in my room, looking through my stuff."
Maverick exhales an exaggerated sigh and turns to his son, "Why the heck would you suspect your assistant?"
"It's that motherfucker's fault."
"Cameron?" Maverick asks and he nods.
Wait the son that was flirting with me? What does he have to do with this?
"What do you mean?" I ask him. His eyes light up and he says,
"Remember when you were talking with Cameron's mom?"
"Yeah."
"Well, by that time I already had a bit of drinks with him so when dad told me it was stolen he convinced me it was probably you."
"And you fucking believed him?" I snap at him,
"I'm sorry I did okay!" He snaps back, "He's an asshole. If it were you you'd also believe him! Being drunk too."
I narrow my eyes at him and stay still on my seat, "How the heck did he convince you? And when did you even get in my room?"
"When I went to the bathroom." He lowers his head. I look away and Maverick catches my eyes with an apologetic look. "Look, he told me assistants are always suspicious. He said he had one that turned out to be a stalker. He asked me if I noticed anything strange about you and the file and I told him you had asked me about it and who's after us and you wanted to know everything." Everett sighs, "He told me it's very suspicious and I should make sure it's not you. At first I denied him because I knew there's no way."
"But?" I lean in.
"But I'm stupid and I let him take advantage of me. I'm sorry." he mubbles at the end.
I lean back and take a deep breath. I turn to Maverick looking between us worried, "You guys are my only chance I have at this. Cameron and his family stole it, Winslow."
What?
He did it?
This is so stupid.
What mission does Maverick want us to do? I can't be in a mission while I'm on a mission right?
Especially with Everett. As lovers? No fucking way.
"What's the mission?" Everett asks and Maverick takes his chair, drags it at the corner of the table closer to us.
"Last night, I remember them saying something about a ball at the earth community. We were drunk so I don't remember a lot but this morning, after some research and tracking, I know exactly what we can do to get it back, and get revenge."
They are earth people?
From a whole ass other community?
Why do I always learn stuff last?
I can't believe the community's file that was not even supposed to be activated got stolen by earth people. This is a mess. I thought being on this mission would be so much easier.
"Are they leaders?" I ask.
"Kind of. They're not the superiors but still in a high place there."
That asshole was flirting with me just to take advantage of us? Men are so damn stupid.
"By my searching, I know the ball is held once a year at the palace of their community. It's a formal event so they dress elegantly and fortunately, wear masks. That gives us an advantage, since they can't see each other's faces. It's a tradition they have, so people get to know each other without knowing their face and if they think they've found their soulmate, they take off their mask. At least that's what they call it I know it's really stupid. Anyway, what I want you to do is go there as a couple or 'soulmates' that get to know each other or whatever. Dance together, eat together, do whatever you can to get Cameron's attention."
"I don't dance, dad." Everett mubbles. Maverick looks at him, shakes his head and looks back at me,
"Winslow you're going to flirt with Cameron to get information out of him and distract him. Everett you're going to get the damn file back." Maverick grins. Everett leans in closer, asking his dad how and I just stay seated with crossed hands, watching them.
"Winslow, your conversation with Cameron will be recorded so Everett can hear where the file is when you make him tell you. You can ask him about it without actually doing it. You get me?"
"Mhm."
"Perfect. You will have a device that helps you communicate with each other. That way he can hear your conversation and know when to get in. Everett, when you get in the room, you're going to press the button on this device," he takes out a small black circle and places it on the table. He turns it around and shows him what to press, "That gives us a chance to hack into their devices and get the information of the file. If we have more time, we can also find out what they're planning."
Wow that' s such a convenient device for what I'm trying to do with their information.
"So all I have to do is flirt with him to get him to tell me about what they did with it?" I ask, crossing my legs. I look at Everett and see him staring at me with a dark expression.
"You don't have to flirt. Just be kind." He mubbles.
"Do whatever you can to just get the information honey. If you need to flirt, flirt. If you need to kiss him, you know what to do." Maverick winks at me and I jump in surprise when Everett slams his fist in the table,
"Punch him."
I glare at him and lean closer, "I won't punch the guy. Try to hide your jealousy." I smirk and he scoffs.
"I'm not jealous."
I lean back on my chair and playfully fidget with my ring, "Right." I say under my breath and Maverick interrupts our intense staring.
"So, you guys in?"
"Yes." We both say at the same time, not taking our eyes off eachother.
After desert and more details from Maverick about what to do, I get up to leave. Everett has already left so I stand up from my chair, heading to the elevator when I hear my name being called. I turn around and notice Maverick walking closer.
"You know, my son never said sorry once in his life." He chuckles.
What?
But he apologized to me.
"He always thinks he's right and he doesn't need to apologize. So, consider that. And that you have an effect on him." He winks at me and I blink, trying to process what he wants to say.
"Right. He should start apologizing more often." I say with a smile and leave after saying goodnight.
What have I gotten myself into?
