I stare at my dad in horror. What can he possibly mean?

My eyebrows fly up when he looks dead serious and I glance at Winslow being frozen. I'm sure she's as confused as me.

Her dad, Ezekiel, is ready to faint again and when no one speaks, dad walks closer to us.

"I never wanted to say this. All I wanted was to forget it. But that day..." He sighs, looking down, "That day I killed the Hector brothers."

Me, Winslow and her dad gasp at the same time.

What is happening?

Why would he do that?

I'm sure if he did something like that I would have known, right?

He's joking, there's no way.

But why on earth would he joke about something like this?

"But the Hector brothers are alive?" I frown, "They tracked the file when you activated it, remember?" I say in full confusion.

"I know the truth behind it." He walks to the couch and takes a seat, "Spencer Collins worked for them. The day your mom died," he turns to Winslow, "Was the day I killed them." He finishes but doesn't explain anything. Questioning looks from everyone in here I suppose is what makes him continue, "When I stormed into their offices, I overheard them talking about how to torture Spencer Collins if he doesn't manage to bring Ezekiel and kill Winslow's mother."

"At that name mentioned, I waited a bit more before killing them so I could learn about their plans and what they were doing with him. When I found out Spencer worked for them and they had assigned him to bring Ezekiel to them,  even if it means having to kill his family, I immediately knew I had to leave and save at least his daughter. So I set their office on fire and went to do what I had to do."

"The man that grabbed you was me, Winslow." He smiles at her, leaving her speechless. Ezekiel, too.

"You saved my daughter?" He asks dad, unable to believe it.

My dad just smiles at him, patting his back when he's ready to tear up, "I can't believe that, thank you so much I owe you my life."

"No, Ezekiel you don't owe me anything. You sent your daughter here and made my son happy with falling in love with her. That's enough for me. Seeing them both happy."

"I don't want to ruin the mood, but I just have a question. Behind the Hector brothers when the file was tracked, was Spencer?" I ask, rubbing my thumb on Winnie's thigh.

She's been quiet for a long time and I wonder if she's okay.

"Yes son."

"Well, that explains why they stole it." I shrug and drag my hand from her thigh to her back, rubbing comforting circles. I look at her side profile and take in how she's so focused, in her own little world. I smile at myself and push a strand of hair behind her ear, whispering in her ear,

"Wanna get out of here?"

She nods, "Yes please."

I take her hand in mine and stand up, "Excuse us." And we head to my room.

"Are you okay love?" I take her waist and drag her to me, hugging her.

"Mhmm." She tiredly mumbles. I pat her head, kissing her forehead while staying like this. "It's just..." She starts off, hesitating. I kiss her forehead again, inhaling her scent. "That your father saved me and I didn't know anything until today." She mumbles on my chest.
