ADELINE

I was only twelve years old when I realized the world that my Dad told me about wasn't as innocent. Valentino, Valentina, and I were playing around the mansion's garden, it was one of the best days because my Mom had just gotten me a new tutu skirt.

"Adeline, and you two, come with me, we need to get you to the safe room." Bridget ran to us, her hair up in a ponytail. I stared up at my older sister, confusion and nausea taking over me. The safe room? The safe room was in the basement. I have never entered it because no conflict occurred in the mansion. It was there in case we needed protection.

"Where's Dad and Mom?" Valentina furrowed her eyebrows, refusing to move.

"Just, please don't ask questions. No one's home but us, I need to call Damien and Christian." Bridget grabbed her phone. I couldn't understand, the guards were keeping us safe, weren't they?

Bridget brought her phone to her ear. "Damien, get your ass over here. I found one of the soldiers shot—Yes, I have the kids with me. None of our parents are home."

"Okay, he's on his way. Follow me, don't make noise." Bridget declared, holding us close and leading us inside the mansion. I looked around
the mansion, nothing was wrong with our home. Valentino kept asking questions while we were heading down to the basement, but the second my shoes touched the stairs, a scream ripped through Valentina's throat, causing all of us to jump and look at the way she was glancing at.

Three men were holding their metal guns at Rosalina's head, oh my god, that wasn't even the worst part. A dead body was on the ground. Fear drowned me, we're they going to kill her? She was only nineteen, how could they be so cruel? "You fucking asshole! I'm wearing Dior heels! And I'm also wearing Chanel perfume, oh my god! My pearl necklace, it was made for me." Rosalina screamed.

Who cares about what she's wearing? Does she want to die? "Shut the fuck up, you whore. Where is the boss's office?" One of the men screamed, gripping Rosalina's neck.

Rosalina whined, shaking her body away from the man. "One, this neck is too hot to be choked, if you want to know, I have a choking kink. And my Dad raised me to never say secrets, so turn the fuck around, and leave." Rosalina spat.

Bridget's jaw fell at the scene. "Oh my god, get the hell away from her!" Bridget moved us back, but it was far too late, we had already seen this mess we were involved in. Valentina held my hand, making me squeeze her palm in case she gets nervous. On my left side, Valentino stood with a scowl on his face.

I stared at him, scared. He surprised me by placing his hand in mine, trying to comfort me. I held both of my friends' hands, keeping us close together. Tears were already making my vision blurry, I couldn't breathe, and there was no space for oxygen left in my body.

"Six of my men are surrounding you three weak idiots, let my cousin go, or I won't hesitate to shoot." I jumped at the sudden voice behind us. I turned around and found Damien, Christian, and a few soldiers wearing holsters and pointing their weapons.

"And? We have your guns on her head. Give us what we want. Our leader will be disappointed if we don't return with the files." The shorter man scowled, causing Damien to chuckle.

"Oh for fucks sake, your weak ass gang can't do shit. We're ranked the most powerful and strongest, and also--the most attractive--mafia by the way." Christian pulled Bridget back from the men.

Rosalina's voice made me turn to her. "He called me a whore, Damien. If you don't let me shoot him, then I'm going to fucking burn you alive!" Rosalina groaned.

Damien narrowed his eyes at her. "Rosalina, let me deal with the kids first. Grayson already has a grudge against me for Bridget, if he finds out I let his other daughter see this mess, he's going to murder me."

While our soldiers were still targeting the intruders, Damien bent down to our heights and stared at his little sister and brother, then at me. "Why don't you guys cover your ears, and go upstairs? You guys don't deserve to see this." He placed his hand on my cheek, erasing my tears. We all nodded, obediently, we held each other's hands and ran up the stairs. The second we reached the living room. Shots.

Valentina broke down, as I pulled her in my embrace, Valentino towered over us and hugged us right. "It's going to be okay, Val. Please don't cry." He whispered.

--

I sat on my bed, and both of my friends were inside my room, waiting for our parents to come back home and make us feel safe once again. None of the others came to us, I'm sure they're still busy in the basement.

Valentina and Valentino had fallen asleep, the hardest part was that I felt even more scared because they were deep in sleep. My heart beat like a drum when my door slammed open, revealing my Dad. And then, I felt safe and protected. Uncle Damon also came in, sending me a small smile and picking up his twins, closing the door, and leaving me and my savior.

Dad pulled me on his lap, hugging me close. "Principessa, did they touch you? Did they hurt you? Did they even look at you?" Dad rushed, holding me right. I let everything out in his arms, all the sobs I held, every tear that fell from my eyes, made Dad angrier.

I broke down, I couldn't stop myself. How could Bridget be so strong? I feel too weak. "I was so scared, I-I didn't know what to do. And B-Bridget seemed so strong about it. I-I thought we were going to lose Rosalina. And I saw a dead body, Dad. The person had a bullet in his head, no one cared to save him."

Dad brought his lips to my forehead, kissing it. My body trembling. "The dead man was an enemy, it doesn't matter."

"No, it does. God knows, what if he has kids or a wife, a family? He has a heart Dad, nobody deserves their heart to stop beating. We are humans, we weren't born evil, some people were forced, you told me this."

Dad rubbed my back. "Adeline, you're too innocent, just know that enemy deserved death."

"Where the hell is my daughter?!" I heard Mom's screams. My door flew open and my mom stormed in, when she saw me her face softened. She sat next to me and Dad, kissed my cheek, and held my hand tightly.

Mom gripped my hand. "Please tell me Bridget didn't lie and that you didn't get hurt," She asked with her voice on edge. I nodded at Mom, making her relax.

"Tell me, do you want us to stay with you until you can fall asleep?" Mom pouted at me. The only right answer would be a yes. I don't think I could stay alone tonight.

Dad shook his head, "Nonsense, we're staying with her all night." Dad turned to Mom, she nodded and took off her heels. I lay on my bed and both of my parents lay on each side of mine, both of them holding my hand.

I held my Dad tight, needing the closure of my parents. "Good night," I whispered while Mom turned off my lamp.

"Good night, principessa." Dad played with a strand of my hair. Both of my parents eventually fell asleep, but I don't think I'll ever get over what I saw today. Blood and guns, that was our life, I shouldn't have been naive to ignore it.
