POV: LEAH
So, I'm still in my room. I heard her go up and down the stairs multiple times to check if my door was unlocked. But since a couple hours, there is no sound anymore, from anywhere.
I tried to sleep for a few houres, but it's 3 AM now. I can't sleep anymore because every time I try to, I get nightmares. I see my brother sitting on his knees. Then there is the vase, clattering against his fragile face. The sound of his crying, blood everywhere.
I have a boxing sack in my room so I'm keeping myself busy until I have to go to school. Oh yes, I'm still in school of course. My last year, so I'm a senior. I just need to complete this year and then I'm out of here. Out of this town, this state, this life.
I went downstairs to see what the damage was this time. Surprisingly, there wasn't much, a few glass shards but other then that I was in the clear. Still no sign of my mom though.
I arrived at school and who did I see standing right before my gate? The Ashlyn Harris, two time World Champion and the greatest human ever to be alive. Just standing there, almost next to me.
"Excuse me, do you know where I could find the principal's office?"
Oh. My. God. She just talked to me. Like a whole sentence.
"Helloo?"
"Oh yes I'm so sorry! I'm completely shocked that you talked to me. Please follow me, I can bring you to him."
"Thanks, what's your name?"
Okay, keep calm, she only wants to know your name.
"Leah. Leah Morris"
"Nice to meet you Leah, I would introduce myself but I have the idea that you already know who I am"
"Yes. You are Ashlyn Harris, the best goalkeeper existing and my idol"
"I wouldn't say that, but yes I am"
Uhm, do I say that we're here? I don't want her to go. She makes me feel safe.
"So, the door on your left brings you to Mr. Sheppem. You need anything else?"
"Not right now I don't, but thank you Leah!"
"You're welcome!"
Incoming call: mom
"You better have a good explanation for why this mess isn't cleaned yet!"
"Uhm, I'm at school mom"
"I said good explanation!"
"What do you expect me to do? If I'm not here they will notice something is wrong!"
"What did I say about talking back to me?! You better watch out when you're home later"
Call ended
"Why is my life such a shit show?"
"Why do you say that?"
I never turned around so fast. The only face I didn't want to see right now, Ashlyn.
"Just because stuff you know. Like, teenage stuff, and friends and-"
Oh my God just shut up you are making it worse with every word you say.
"Uhm, sure. Good that I catch you here, I needed to talk to you"
"Talk, with me? About what?"
"Can you come back with me in the principal's office for a second?"
"Sure!"
Okay, contain your exitement, this is getting akward.
"So Leah, I've been sent here to talk with your principal about you. Are you aware that there have been scouts to your games?"
You got to be kidding me! The last thing I need right now is attention.
"Uh no, I didn't know"
"Well, my national head coach Jill Ellis sent me to ask you this question: would you like to come with the squad to Orlando for our next few games?"
"Are you saying I got called up?"
"You did, Leah, congratulations!"
Oh, now the principal is advertising this, of course.
"I'm sorry, I can't accept this. I can't even... I'm sorry"
I have to get the hell out of this place.
"Leah! Leah wait!"
Where am I gonna go? If I go home my mom wil beat the shit out of me. I can't stay at the school or I will be interrogated by Ashlyn and my lovely principal.
I have nowhere to go.
