POV: LEAH
We made our way downstairs to the mess hall. The three of us. Together.
"Late happy birthday, you know", Ashlyn told me
"You had your birthday?", Alex asked. I smiled sheepishly at her.
"I celebrated with George, one of the homeless people I lived with in the park, my friend", I explained to get out of this conversation.
"We have to celebrate again then, together as a family. I'm determined now, you can't change my mind. It's not every year you become an adult", Ashlyn said and Alex agreed instantly.
"I'm not even going to try to convince you guys", I said but they were already gone again.
Well, it seems like I have to get myself ready for a birthday party. I've never had one thrown for me, my mom didn't celebrate my birthday once. Not even when my dad and Luke were still alive. She said birthdays were just a way of showing the world you survived yet another year, it had no other meaning to her than that.
POV: ASHLYN
I am throwing that kid the best birthday party ever. Okay, so it can't be childish but even though she is an adult now, it also can't be adultish. She is still a kid who missed a lot of her youth.
"Hey Alex, why don't you take her out for breakfast tomorrow? Spend some time together after all of this? In the meanwhile the rest of us can work on that party", I told Alex
"Yeah, good idea! You sure you don't want to go with us? I don't want to come between you guys", she said
"Alex, I'm sure you've also had a rough two months, maybe even worse than me. You deserve this" I answered her. She is so sweet.
"Thanks Ash, I really appreciate that!"
We went to the mess hall because everyone was eating already. I sat down next to Ali and kissed her cheek quickly. Apperently it wasn't quick enough because Leah called me out.
"I saw that Harris!"
I chuckled but everyone was confused. Then it hit me. Nobody knows that we made up yet. I got up from my chair and walked over to her. She was still sitting alone because she likes to eat in peace. I hung over her and began tickeling her.
"AAAH, stop that right now!", she screamed while laughing histerically. Everybody began smiling because they understood the fight was over. Alex sat her plate down in front of Leah and she smiled at me. I understood what she was trying to do, so I grabbed my plate from my spot and I joined their table. I gave Ali a discrete nod to join us too. Tobin got up too and sat at the other side of Leah. They were planning yet another prank, this time on the chief herself, Ms. Ellis. A little bit risky if you ask me, and that comes from me!
We were eating in peace, just like Leah likes, until Jill walked in the room looking around. When her eyes met Leah's she was calming down a little and began smiling.
"Ms. Morris, can you follow me for a second?"
POV: LEAH
"Ms. Morris, can you follow me for a second?"
I was very confused. I walked out of the room behind her but I was less nervous once I saw her smiling at me.
"What's wrong?", I asked her because I still had no idea what was happening.
"I just got a phone call which concerns you. Do you know Mark Parsons?", she asked me. Oh my God!
"The manager of THE Portland Thorns? Of course I know who he is!", I yelled out of excitement.
"He just called me because he can't reach out to you. He asked me to tell you he wants to sign you. Because you are now eighteen you can", she went on
"Are you serious?! Oh my God this can't be happening! Being part of the Thorns is my childhood dream!"
"What's going on?"
Alex stood behind me with a very confused look on her face. I was too stunned to speak.
"Leah has some exciting news to share, common Leah let's go back in and tell everybody", Jill answered for me
"Are you okay?", Alex asked me because I didn't say anything to her yet
"I'm better than okay. I'm fantastic, I'm - oh my God!", I still couldn't believe this was happening.
"Let's go inside, shall we?", Alex said, still a little sceptic about all of this
We went inside and by now everybody was watching because apparently they heard some screaming. Oops, that was me you guys
"Tobin! Lindsey! Guess who will be your new teammate?!", I shouted across the room while pointing at myself
"No way! No freaking way! Mark wants to sign you?! This is going to be so epic, the prankster trio reunited as Thorns!", Tobin yelled back
"OMG, I have to tell my mother this!", Lindsey added and with that I cracked up. Tobin followed my lead and Lindsey began to laugh at herself. The three of us were laughing like crazy while the rest of the team realized they had to compete to the best team in the world now.
I slept like an angel that night.
