Chapter 1: New Friends
Torture. It started when a boy named Mac met a girl named Evie. They live in Yolo, California.
Halley's POV😳
"Ughhh!!! I hate that kid!" I burst out walking into the bathroom. "Besair!" My French is taking over. "Merd!! Besair moi!!! Mrs. Dunner already hates me as it is!" Why did I half to take French? French is also my last name which is just a mere coincidence. It doesn't really matter though because it's senior year of high school and after this I will go to college and hopefully get married afterwards. Anyways back to the real problem at stake; Mrs. Dunner and God awful Mac who sits next to me. I feel bad for every student that is on Mrs. Dunner's bad side which obviously includes me. Now she thinks I was trying to be seductive or something crazy. I also feel bad for all the girls that find Mac a total heartthrob because he's not. For those that think I'm going to fall in love with him, I'm not.
My face immediately turns red when I look up from my zoning out after my screaming fit. I notice two familiar looking girls almost trying to hold in the laughter. They aren't like those bratty girls though. They hold a sincerity in their eyes. I realized they were from my science class. They went back to chatting in front of the mirror fixing their hair back into high ponytails. One girl is tall with short, caramel, straight hair that is approximately half an inch above her shoulders. She has awakening blue eyes that are so bright it practically hurts. The other girl who is shorter has long, dark, chocolate colored hair that dangles with ringlet curls and the kind of ever-green eyes that remind you of a (insert something really green).
"Who?" The girl with the caramel straight hair calls in a trill. I could tell they both couldn't wait for me to tell them the story to my fit. She's usually pretty quiet and doesn't talk much in science class. Wait... Is she even talking to me then? Probably not. I mean she usually isn't all that outgoing all the time.
I decide to talk after a minute of awkward zoning out.
"Mac" I reply. It sounded as if I was day dreaming. Wait...... hell to the NO!!! I hate that... that..., I'm at a loss of words. BEAST! Ok, why since this morning have I gone entirely crazy? I don't know. Don't blame me. I'M EXHAUSTED!!! I had to wake up an hour early this morning to go to Drama Club practice plus I was up til like two o'clock in the morning playing cards with my brother and making stupid bets pretending that we were gambling. Calm down Halley, calm down.
"Oh, we were just talking about him." The one with the, I swear brightening by the moment, blue eyes assays with an intent I can't make out. Please don't be the type (90% of girls at our school) that finds Mac a total fitty. He is a fitty but a lot of girls think he's flawless. Trust me he has lived not only across but also a couple of houses down from mine and from what has happened before, he isn't that dreamy.
"I'm Kaleigh," she continues introducing herself. "I think you're in my science class? What's your name again?"
"Halley" I say embarrassed. I don't know why, but I am.
"Yeah. You're in my Drama Club, and you live down the street from me. You probably already know my name," the other girl with the curly, chocolate colored, brown hair responds.
Now I know who she is, Evie Green! I feel stupid for not noticing her right away when live on the same street.
"Yeah" Is all I say.
"Cool" Kaleigh responds trying to gain some attention.
"Mac is a horrible person. I hate that kid!" Evie pauses and starts to wince. I could tell from the crystal green appearance of her eyes that there is depth to her reasoning. She was the kind of person this pat duly means it. She does not deny anything. "This morning he cut off a lock of my hair," she says as her eyes well up and can tell she's about to cry. She holds out her hair and points to the one lock of hair that ends four inches above the rest of her locks, then starts to cry. I was flabbergasted. I never thought Mac was that bad. I mean I knew he was the manipulating type but not this bad that he'd change a girls appearance physically. He is the kind of person that damages people from the inside. What I was fantasizing over, only seems partial to the problem. Mac is an asshole.
"He picked me up in the beginning of class and when the teacher walked in. It was just awkward," I say. "She immediately believed him when he said he was tricked and that I had different intentions."
My phone buzzes in my boot.
It's from Matt, one of my closest friend that is in the same French class as me.
OMFG! CLASS! What time is it? I pull my phone out of my boot and turn it on to find second period is almost over. CRAP! I just spent half an hour in the bathroom. I decide to forget about the text and figure if it's that important he could tell me when I get back to class.
"I gotta go" I say hoping I didn't miss too much, mrs. Dunner might actually hate me more if I don't run like now.
"Kay, sit with us at lunch," Evie yelled at me as I'm running out the door to go back to class.
"I will," I say as I continue sprinting towards class.
This is pretty exciting. I've never really had any real friends that were girls before! Now I felt like I owed the beast for this (Mac). Dammit! I don't want to owe him anything! I have this rule though, that when someone gives you an opportunity you never had before that you must repay him.
