Chapter 19: Back To School

Evie's POV.😳    

My alarm blared and I waved my hand around trying to turn it off. Needless to say, it didn't work. I painfully opened my eyes and picked up my alarm clock and chucked it in my closet.  After another five minutes my mom came up and said "Evie! Get up! You have to go to an appointment then straight to school! And why is your alarm clock in your closet?"     "Cause it's annoying!" I mumbled.  I don't care if its annoying, GET UP!" She yelled.  "Fine," I mumbled and stumbled out of bed. Seeing that I got up my mom walked out and went downstairs again.

I then plodded over to my closet and pulled out my black MCR (My Chemical Romance) tank-top and my galaxy shorts and put them on. Then I pulled out my sneaker heels and put them on. I really hope I don't have to get crutches. I know sneaker heels sound weird but they are really cool. The heels are black sneakers with red lining.

I pulled them on, grabbed my phone and walked downstairs.  "Hey honey, you have another appointment this morning ok. You will probably miss all of homeroom ok?" My dad said.  "Ok! Yay, I get to miss more school!" I say happily.  I eat a quick breakfast, brush my teeth, and get in the car.

My dad gets in the car and pulls out of the driveway. But then he drives into the Sanders driveway and Mac walks out with crutches and his mom following to open the door, and gets in the car.  "Hey Evie! How's your ankle? Shouldn't you not be wearing heels with a sprained ankle?" Mac says.  "Fine! How are you feeling? And they are probably only going to wrap my ankle and give me crutches so I will continue to wear heels!" I say.  "Ok! Wow, even as a kid you loved high heels and now you wear them everyday!" Mac says.  "Yeah I did! Wow I can't believe you remember that! Well, we were best friends......whatever! I'm going to wear heels as much as I can! And I don't wear them everyday!" I cry.  "Whatever Ev's!" He says giving up. He knows he's not going to win. 

We drive to our appointments and they wrap up my ankle and give me crutches, just like I predicted and Mac was I'm the room across the hall getting a check up because the doctors had to check his spine and make sure his ribs and everything were ok.  Our appointments ended up being longer than we expected. Hell yes!!! Less school!  When we arrive at school it's the beginning of 2nd period, so we hop out and walk into school and get a pass. We walk to our lockers, which coincidentally, are 2 away from each other. We grab our books and head to second period; History.    

We walk in and the whole room turns and looks at us.  "Awkward......," I mumble under my breath.  Mac lets out a quiet chuckle. We walk up to the teachers desk and hand her our late pass.  "Take your seats please," Mrs. Bell says.  We sit down and I zone out as usual. The day goes by pretty quickly, most people ask what happened to us, but I've heard lots of rumors like, I ran him over, and I pushed him into the street and other ridiculous and stupid stuff. 

Finally, last period of the day! Science! I walk in with Kaleigh who is helping me with my books because I'm on crutches. We sit down in our normal seats and chat until class starts.  Our teacher walks in and I walk up to her desk with Mac because we both missed school yesterday, so we need to get any missed work.     "Hey, so we were absent yesterday, did we miss any work?" I ask.  "Besides turning in your science fair idea, no. But-" she looked down her list, "you two are the only two students left, so you are now partners," she says after a minute.  "Wait, I was partners with Logan, and he was partners with Halley!" I say confused.  "Yes, but since you weren't here, you are now partners. I expect your science fair idea by tomorrow. Now please take your seats." She says exasperated. 

We sit down and class goes by. Science class is very boring usually, but Mac kept making faces at me and throwing notes at me so it was a little more fun! 

I walk out of school and start walking home with my crutches alone because Halley is going to Logan's because they are now partners. Also Colton was going out with his friends and doesn't know I have crutches and no ride! Isn't that lovely.  Oh and I'm guessing Mac has no ride either. Besides we both can't drive with crutches and casts.    

"Hey Evie!!!! Wait up!" I hear a familiar voice call out.     I halt right where I'm standing and wait for the person to catch up. Then I see Mac jog up to stand beside me. Then I start walking and say, "yeah?"  "So, what do you want to do for the Science Fair?" He asks.  "Ugh! I don't know!!" I say.  As we walk we talk about random things. I look up and we are in front of our houses.  "Hey, why don't you come over and we can research ideas?" Mac suggests.  "Sure," I reply. 

We walk into his house and up to his room. He sits down at his desk and I pull up a chair and we start looking up ideas.  How about this one? 'Do different breakfasts affect your learning ability?" It wasn't even on the list of ideas on the website. How did he come up with that?!?     " I kinda like it. It was Halley's and my idea before she switched partners. What do you think? She and Logan are doing something else," Mac says.     I think about it and agree. We write it down and I keep it because Mac tends to lose things. Then again, he did remember their project idea from before.

I walk home and go upstairs.  Later on, Im about to go to bed, and my phone buzzes. I pick it up and it's Mac.    

M: Night Ev's! Don't forget to be at my house at 7 ok! I will drag you out of bed if I have to!    

E: Night Mac n Cheese! I won't forget but you might HAVE to drag me outta bed! Oh well! Night!    

M: STOP CALLING ME THAT!!! Night! 

I put my phone on my bedside table and crawl under the cover. Soon I'm deep asleep.
