Chapter 23: Diner Confessions

Evie's POV. 😳

"You know, I will get you back for this!" I say with an evil smile.

"Don't I know it!" He replies.

Lilia appears, "What would you kids like to eat today?" She asks.

"Ummm..I will have the Spinach and Feta Omelet with regular fries, a side of Rye Toast, and a Coke please!" I say after glancing at the menu.

"And for you Maca-" Lilia begins but she is cut off by Mac.

"I'll have the usual Aunt Lilia" he says curtly.

Lilia hurries off to the kitchen to place our order. I look over at Mac, "You know I'm still angry at you!" I say.

"No you're not!" He says calmly.

"Huh, yes I am!" I cry.

"You forget how well I know you Evie Bevie! I know you thought it was hilarious!" He says.

"I.....ok it was hilarious Mac N' Cheese! Or should I say Macaulay!" I say knowing it will annoy him.

"Oh no Evie! Now you've done it!" He cries and runs around and sits next to me.

"What are you going to do?" I say a bit scared.

"Oh, nothing serious.....just tickle you!!!"he cries and starts tickling me!

I squeal and try to get away but he has me cornered in the booth! I'm trapped!!

Lilia comes back with a tray of great smelling food and says "Macaulay! Get away from that nice girl! I'm sure she doesn't need you to tickle her especially with her injuries!"

Mac automatically jumps away, I can see in his eyes he's scared, scared that he hurt me.

I place my hand on his shoulder, "I'm fine Mac, really!"

"Are you sure? I shouldn't have done that!" He says, clearly still worried.

"Trust me, I'm fine!" I assure him.

He looks at me one last time to assure that I'm ok, then sits down across from me and digs into the food Lilia placed on the table.

"So that's your usual? How many times have you been here? And is Lilia actually your aunt?" I ask.

He has the exact thing I have! He looks up and says, "Yeah, this is my usual! I've been coming here for about.." He looked hesitant to finish.

"Go on.." I urged.

"I've been coming here once every month for about 7 years. And Lilia isn't really my aunt but she acts like she is, she knows about everything about me! So she's like an aunt to me" He says quietly.

"Oh...well it's nice that you have someone like that!" I say glancing around the diner.

"Wait! This place.....it looks vaguely familiar!" I say confused.

"Umm....yeah we used to come here as kids before, you know, we-" he stops talking.

"Before we ditched each other for no real reason!?" I end for him.

"Yeah!" He says.

We sit there quietly, eating our food and occasionally glancing at each other.

When we finish eating, we grab the check, fight over who gets to pay, finally agree on splitting it, leave a tip for Lilia, and hobble back to the car.

We get in and Mac turns on the ignition and we pull out of the diner parking lot. He drives me home and I get out, struggling to get on my crutches.

As I'm about to shut the car door Mac calls out, "Evie!"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for today...it was really nice to talk to you....so, yeah thanks!"

A bit stunned, I say, "Oh, well, your absolutely welcome! It was nice talking to you to Mac! See you later!"

"Ok...see ya!" He says awkwardly and drives away.

I walk inside and see Kaleigh and Halley waiting for me.

"You have defiantly got a story to tell girly! SDS right away!" Kaleigh says.

"SDS?" Halley says confused.

"Sit down and spill" I explain.

"Ok, then SDS Evie!" Halley says.

Oh this is going to be a long day!
