Meredith.

It's a few days later and I've been feeling a lot better lately.

There's a knock at the door and I get up to go answer it while Derek's in the kitchen. I open the front door and I see an older man and woman.

"Hi, can I help you?" I say. "Who are you?" the older woman asks. "Um, who are you looking for?" I ask.

"My son, Derek Christopher Shepherd," she says. "Come inside. he's in the kitchen," I say before stepping aside and letting them in. Derek never said anything about his parents coming to visit.

"I'll go get Derek," I say. I leave the living room and go into the kitchen.

"Hi, amore. who was at the door?" he asks as I walk over to him.

"Your parents are in the living room. Why didn't you say anything about your parents coming over?" I ask.

"I didn't know they were coming over. I knew they were in town but I expected them to call first," he says.

"What did they say, what did you say?" he asks. "Nothing, they asked who I was so I asked them who they were looking for and they said you so I let them inside," I say.

"Okay, it would probably be best if you stayed in here thought," he says. "Why," I ask. "Because they don't know I have a girlfriend yet and I don't want them to interrogate you. I'm not ashamed of you, it's not that, they are just very judgmental, that's all," he says. I nod.

he kisses my cheek before he leaves the kitchen and goes into the living room.

-

it's an hour later and they're still here while I'm sitting at the kitchen table.

A few minutes later Derek walks into the kitchen and closes the door behind him.

"They won't leave, I've already explained multiple times who are you and they keep asking about your entire life and I don't know all of that," he says.

"What are they doing here?" I ask. "Visiting, interrogating, who can tell?" He sighs.

"How much longer do I have to hide in here?" I ask.

"Depends on how long they're here for. You could try leaving but you wouldn't get past the living room," he says.

"So they're not from Seattle?" I ask. "No, they're from New York. They rarely come here and if they do they usually call first," he says.

"What makes today different?" I ask. "I don't know," he says. "You never know with them," he says.

"Well did they say what brings them here?" I ask. "My father has business in Seattle for a few weeks so they'll be here for a while but I don't know how long they'll be here, in my house," he says.

"Do they know I'm staying here and why?" I ask as he walks over to me. "Yes, I told them your house was robbed and that's why you were staying here for a while after everything happened," he sits down in the seat next to me and pulls me into his lap.

"You know, it's been a few months, I think it's safe for me to go back to my place," I say. his smile fades.

"Why would you do that?" he asks. "Well, the only reason I've been staying here for so long is because I was worried they would come back but they never have... I love spending time with you and always having you around but we've only been dating for a few months and living together is a little soon, don't you think?"

"I... yeah, I guess it is a little soon... I just really like having you around," he says.

"I know, but you and I will still see each other a lot, I'll come over to your place, you can come over to my place. I'll still stay the night sometimes and you can stay the night as well," I say.

"Yeah," he nods. I kiss him on the lips. I put my hand under his chin and rub his cheek with my thumb.

"We'll still see each other all the time, don't worry, baby," I kiss him again.

"Okay," he nods. "Derek!" I hear his mother yell from the living room. "You should go check on that... and get them to leave so I can pee," I say. he nods. I get off his lap and he goes into the living room.

-

Derek hasn't come back into the kitchen but I still have to go to the bathroom. I stand up and leave the kitchen, I see them as they're just about to leave.

"Sorry," I mouth to Derek before I walk across the living room and go upstairs and go to the bathroom.

I wash my hands and go back downstairs. I go into the living room and see his parents have finally left.

"I had to kick them out, they think you're a horrible person because you didn't say hi even though I told them you were busy they still don't like you," he walks over to me and places his hands on my waist.

"That's fine, my parents don't like me very much either so I'm sure I can adapt," I smile. I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him.

"What do you mean your parents don't like you?" he asks as he pulls away.

"I stood in the way of my mother's career because she never really wanted kids, and my father left when I was five, but it's fine, don't worry," I say.

"Are you sure?" he asks. "Yes, it was years ago. I got over it eventually," I shrug.

"Okay. but I should get dinner started. You can stay in here and relax for a bit," he says. I nod and sit on the couch.
