Meredith.
four weeks later.
it's been about four weeks since the babies were born and it's about time Romeo is able to come home.
Derek's happy about him being able to come home and all but he's still pretty depressed about the situation in general.
he's been that way for the past month, I've never seen him this way before and I don't really know what to do to help him either.
Adelina still has to be in the hospital for about two more weeks and then she can come home as well.
It'll be a little weird having only one baby in the house but it won't be too long before we can take Adelina home too.
I've already breastfed both of them at the hospital so when they come home they should be accustomed to it.
Derek hasn't been working too much lately, he usually just stays home and does nothing. usually, when he's upset he'll work to take his mind off it but not this time.
Hopefully having one of the babies home will help him feel better and get back to himself.
I've already got dressed this morning but Derek's still in his pajamas and sitting on the couch in front of the TV.
I go downstairs and see Derek watching the game on the couch shirtless. "Derek, are you going to get dressed?" I say standing behind him.
"What for?" he asks. "We're going to pick up Romeo from the hospital, he can finally come home and in two weeks we can bring Adelina home," I say.
"Meredith, I'm not sure I want to go," he says. "Come on, Derek, it'll only take a couple of minutes and then we'll be home. I know you've been upset lately but the reason you've been upset is because the babies aren't here, and they're going to be home soon," I say.
"Fine, but it'll take a few minutes to get dressed," he says. "Alright, just hurry," I say.
*******************
it's been a couple of hours since we brought Romeo home and Derek's been in the nursery with him for the past hour.
I don't know why but he's fed and I think he's just happy that one of the babies is home.
Derek's mother hasn't called in a couple of days but she's been calling a lot more lately since it's coming closer to my due date.
We still haven't told her that I went into labour early because if she found she would immediately go to the hospital and harass the staff until they allowed her to see them.
The only person in the family who knows about the babies being born is Derek's sister Amelia.
She stopped by the house to talk to Derek and when I answered the door she could immediately tell that I had lost fifty pounds.
It's not like I could just lie to her so I told her the truth and she promised not to tell her parents, especially Carolyn.
She said it wouldn't be a problem considering she's no longer in contact with her parents.
Apparently, they got into some big fight when she got out of rehab. She couldn't sleep for a couple of weeks because of stress and insomnia and they took her tired eyes as a sign she was doing drugs again or something like that.
"He's asleep," Derek says as he comes downstairs. He walks into the living room and sits down next to me.
"That's good. How is he?" I ask. "He's fine, he seems healthy. He didn't cry too much, he just whined a little. I changed his diaper and then he fell asleep," he says.
"And how are you?" I ask. "I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" He says.
"You've been a little off ever since the twins were born. You're depressed, you're not happy. You almost didn't want to come with to pick up our son," I say.
"What's going on?" I ask. "I didn't want to go with to pick up Romeo was because Adelina was going to be there and it didn't feel right only taking him home and leaving her there on her own," he says.
"She doesn't know she's alone Derek, we'll still visit her often and we can take Romeo with us. In a couple of weeks, we can take her home and that'll be it. No more hospitals, no more worrying. They'll be home with us and they'll be just fine," I say.
"You don't know that, something could go wrong. She could develop a brain tumour or there could be something wrong with her heart," he says.
"They would have told us by now if that were true but they haven't said anything which means she's fine," I say.
"For now, until something bad happens," he says.
"Derek, stop. You can't keep doing this," I sigh. "Doing what, what am I doing?" He says.
"Being so depressing. You knew the babies were going to have to stay in the hospital for a while before coming home, all twins are like that and yet you seem so upset as if you had no idea this was coming," I say.
"Well, I didn't know it was going to be for this long!" He groans. "Of course, you did because I told you multiple times that it would be a couple of weeks before we could take them home!" I say.
"So what, you're not upset that they're in the hospital, you're fine with that, that doesn't bother you?" He says.
"Derek, don't make me the bad guy because I knew what was coming. We both knew, don't act like you didn't," I say.
"I'm not doing this with you, I'm not fighting with you," he says before standing up and leaving the room.
I grab the tv remove and turn on the news.
