Rhonda leads them to where the truck is at. They're walking past her seismo. But then, Earl falls down into something, and starts screaming. Everyone jumps at this as they all look.
Rhonda: What? What?
Ruby: What's the matter?!
Earl pulls his leg out while panting. He looks down, and at everyone.
Earl: Dang prairie dog burrow.
Val: Little sons of freaks.
Sora then hears something. He turns around, and sees Rhonda's seismograph, and it's scratching on the paper. Rhonda sees this too, and they both look around, knowing what's coming at them. Sora signals the others to it, and they see it. They all look around, and make a run for it.
Earl: This way!
Val: Up on that rock!
They all run for the highest rocks to get on. They get on them just in time, as another worm appears, using its tongues to reach for them, which screeches. They look at the snakes, and see that one has been ripped off, meaning that this is the worm that grabbed onto Val and Earl's truck.
Earl: Looks like the one that grabbed our truck.
Val: (To Rhonda) Where the heck's your truck?
Rhonda: (Points) It's right over there.
They all look, and see her truck is 70 yards away from them. Which is pretty far to go ahead on foot if they run over there.
Val: Oh, man, I don't think we can make that.
Ren: At least not without one of us getting eaten by this thing.
They all look back down on the worm, and sees it's tongues are going back down into the ground, seeing that it can't reach them.
Earl: At least he can't climb.
They all go up further on the rocks. Sora and Val sniff, and recoil back too.
Val: Oh, man! Live ones smell worse than the dead ones.
Sora: Yeah. It smells like it's been in a sewer pipe.
The worm circles around the rocks through the dirt and sand. They all stand and sit down on the rocks, waiting for the thing to leave. Three hours later, they're still on the rocks, thinking. They're also thinking of where these things came from.
Val: I got it. I got it. They're mutations caused by radiation. Or no, no, no. The government built them. Big surprise for the Russians.
Toji: Or maybe they're from the dinosaur age. I mean, things were bigger back then.
Ren: Then where have they been for the last million years?
Rhonda: Well, there's nothing like them in the fossil record. I'm sure. Ok, so they predate the fossil record. That would make them a couple billion years old. And we've just never seen one till now. Right.
Sora: They must have come from underground. That's the only thing I can think of.
Earl: I vote for outer space. No way these are local boys.
They all chucke at that. Earl and Riku look around, and they don't see the worm anywhere, not even it moving around inside the dirt.
Earl: Well, haven't seen a sign for hours. Must be long gone.
Riku: He's right. That thing hasn't made a move since. Probably gone now.
Val: Yeah, must be. (Looks at him) Hey, why don't you take a little stroll and find out?
