Chapter 14: We killed it! Bring down the house, Nestor's wild ride

Back at the town, everyone on the store roof is waiting for Burt to say something. The gunshots stopped a couple of minutes ago. Then, they hear him on the radio.

Burt on radio: We killed it! You got that? We killed that motherhumper! Come back.

Upon hearing that, everyone all smiles, laugh and cheer. Val and Earl give each other high fives. Val talks on the radio.

Val: Well, roger that, Burt. And congratulations. Be advised, however, there are three more. Repeat, three more motherhumpers. 

Danny: (Takes the radio) Burt, get your wife and daughter, and get on the roof. You'll be safe up there. They can't reach you. 

Miguel: (Calls out to everyone) Burt got one! He killed one! 

Melvin: Way to go, dude! 

Everyone cheers at this. 

Earl: Well, I guess we don't get to make fun of Burt's lifestyle anymore, huh? 

Val: (Talks on radio) Say, Burt? Any chance you can get the other three? Come back. 

Back at the house, the family are on their roof, with guns and stuff. 

Burt: Yeah. One second, pal. 

Brenda: (Looks down) Dad, there's one now!

Burt and Heather look down, and see one in the ground, moving their stone bricks. Burt aims, and fires the elephant gun down on the ground. They look, and see that it didn't get shot by the bullets. The dirt protected them from the bullets.

Heather: You didn't get penetration even with the elephant gun. 

Burt: Shoot!

Heather: Gee whiz. 

Brenda: Daddy, what do we do now?

Burt: Hold that thought. (Picks up walkie radio) Val, we can't get them. I never figured on having to shoot through dirt. The best goshdang bullet stop there is. Come back.

Back at the town, everyone hears him, and look down. Looks like guns can't get them through the dirt. Looks like they need a new plan. 

Earl: Let me see that. (Takes the radio) Burt, listen. Forget shooting them. Tell me this. Can you get to your truck? Over.

Burt on radio: No problem. 

Earl: Good, 'cause you and the sheriff have the only trucks in the valley that can get up that jeep trail. Now lisiten. Here's the plan. You, Heather and Brenda go for help. Some of us can go with you in the other truck. You get to the mountains and keep going...

Rhonda: Guys! You guys! Come over.

Earl: Hang on a sec. 

They all go to where Rhonda is looking at. She's pointing at a Graboid that has its snakes on the side of the building. It's the one who grabbed the truck. 

Rhonda: He's up to something.

Val: Well, if it isn't our old pal, stumpy. 

They all watch as it uses its snakes to bite on the side of the building.

Sora: What's it doing now?

Kairi: It looks like it's trying to bite onto the wall, trying to get up here.

Val: Hey, Rhonda. What do you think it's trying to do now? 

Rhonda: (Looks at him) Why do you keep asking me?

The heroes all chuckle at that. Cole points down, and they see the snakes retreating back into the dirt. Everyone looks at each other. And suddenly, the whole building shakes. Everyone all shout as they move back from the ledge.
