TRAPPED

At that exact moment, the door to the basement slams shut, making a loud noise that makes us all jump. Then there are footsteps in the hallway upstairs and the sound of breaking glass in the kitchen.

Jay rushes up the stairs and pulls the door handle, but the door does not budge.

"Shit! It's locked from the outside. Looks like our ghost has woken up again and is having some fun with us," he calls to us from the top of the stairs.

"Does that mean that we are trapped down here now?" I look worried.

'Please don't let us be trapped down here!' But my thoughts are interrupted by Jay coming back down the stairs.

"Don't worry. There is always another way out," Cedric reassures me as he begins to scan the room. I decide to do the same and look around carefully.

The room has no windows, which means that escape is out of the question. There are no other doors in the basement either, just one big room with no hope of escape... or so I thought.

"Here... look. This should work," Jay calls to me and Cedric from across the room.

We walk over to where Jay is standing and find a small crack in the wall, as if something heavy had crashed into it and left this small crack.

"How is that going to help us?" I look at Jay, confused. "All we need is something to hit it with," Jay explains.

"You want to put a hole in my wall?" is my shocking reaction and the only one I seem to have.

"Well, we could also stay here until the ghost gets bored and lets us out, but I doubt that that will happen in the next few hours or even days," Cedric interjects.

"And you don't seem to have any food or water down here, so that will leave us maybe... three days, if that, before we all starve to death. So, it's your choice," he finishes with a smirk.

Even though that smirk annoys me deeply, I know that he is right.

'There is no way that we can survive in here for long. And I have no intention of leaving my life behind just yet,' I think for a few seconds.

"So, it's your choice," Cedric repeats.

Jay comes over and puts a hand on my shoulder. "I understand. And it's okay if you don't want us to ruin your house. We will find another way, I am sure."

"It's okay. I want to get out of here as soon as possible and then hopefully get back to my normal life again."

"Okay, if you are really sure." I nod in agreement.

"Right then, we will need to find something heavy to knock this wall down."

"There has got to be something down here that can help us out."

We continue to rummage through the boxes, hoping to find something useful.
