It was quarter to 9. Almost an hour had past yet Samaira was in the same position; knelt beside the bed on the floor, sobbing into the quilt. Her heart was pounding wildly, along with an ache in her chest that threatened to do some fatal damage to her health. And she was counting on it. Waiting for her breaths to slowly become shallower before finally stopping.
But just that moment, she heard a sound.
Of the iron gates opening.
She stood up, alert, and didn't dare to even breath incase she missed the next sounds she desperately wanted to hear.
And then she heard it. Despite the heavy rainfall slamming against the glass windows, she heard it.
The unmistakable sound of several cars entering through the driveway.
Tears of hope welled up in her eyes and she was running out of the suite even before knowing. She took the elevator and came down on ground floor.
‘Please let it be Rajveer... please let it be Rajveer...’
Her heart was chanting it like a mantra as she ran towards the entrance door and swung it open. The pitter patter sound of rain doubled in force. Clouds thundering noisily in the sky. But she was unaware of it all. Her eyes were fixed on the line of cars that had stopped.
Liam stepped out with an umbrella and came around to held open the door.
She knew he did that for only ONE person but STILL, her stomach coiled so tightly in fear that she felt the ache worsening.
And out stepped Rajveer.
Her heart slammed to her chest with the force of an earthquake. Her lungs released all the air at once and her brain... it simply shut down, unable to handle so many emotions in such intensity at once.
Her feet were running towards Rajveer again, without a care of the weather. Without a care that she was rapidly getting wet.
Rajveer, who saw her running towards him, put aside the umbrella from over his head and walked towards her. He was ready to hold her in his arms but when she neared, she stunned him by pushing him back with force he didn't know she had.
He staggered back, looking at her stunned.
“Samaira...”
But she grabbed him by his collar and glared dead into his eyes. That's when he noticed, her eyes were swollen and puffy, and an insane number of emotions was floating there. As if, an ocean, threatening to break free and flood everything.
“How could you ?” - she asked, her voice trembling. “HOW COULD YOU BREAK YOUR PROMISE ?! Did I not ask you to return as soon as possible ? That I'll miss you ?” - she shook him by his collar.
He was stunned and broken at the same time to see her like that.
“Do you have any idea from WHAT I have been through ever since I got to know about a bomb blast in Delhi ?” - her voice thickened and he could see the tears gathering in her eyes despite the rain continuously falling over them.
She tightened her grip on his collar and got closer, making their noses touch while tears fell freely from her eyes. Joining with the rain water on her cheeks.
“Can't you see how much I love you ?”
His breathing stopped. It was said in a whisper but he clearly heard her due to their proximity. He felt like his lungs stopped pumping blood, his heart stopped beating. And every system in his body stopped its process.
Did she just...
“Can't you see that a life without you is impossible for me anymore ?”
He swallowed. Not believing his ears. He had known it for a while now. Had seen that emotion deep in her eyes but still had not wanted to assume. His heart had been wanting to hear her say it herself. And now when she did, he was overwhelmed. Unable to believe despite the reality of it all.
