“Is Samaira home ?” - Vivek asked John who received him at the entrance door of SamaiRaj Palace.

A week had passed to Samaira getting injured by the bullet. He had been out of city for Sajawat's work and as soon as he got to know about the incident, he rushed to ask her health without a second thought.

“Yes Sir. I'll inform mistress. Please have a seat.” - John said and went away.

He waited for some ten minutes and then saw her stepping out of the vacuum elevator.

“So you remembered your childhood friend at last ?” - she teased walking towards him.

He smiled but his gaze fell on her left arm which was bandaged and his heart tugged painfully.

“Oh I'm fine. Don't give me those looks.” - she waved a hand while taking seat. “God knows I have had enough of those in the past week.”

He chuckled and took a seat as well.

“So, how did it happen ?” - he asked. “And don't give me the ‘street crime’ crap Sam.” - he added just as she opened her mouth.

She closed her mouth in surprise. “What do you mean ?”

He smiled sadly. “I know who Rajveer is Sam. You don't need to lie to me.”

She bit her lip. How did he know ?

“Does your family know ?” - he asked and her expressions hardened.

“No. And I would like to keep it that way.” - she said resolutely.

He raised his hands up in surrender. “I mean no harm. I was just asking that do they know about the constant danger their daughter is in ?”

She left the support of the couch and straightened. “Danger ?”

“Sam, you and I both know that the attack was aimed at Rajveer. I mean, why would anybody want to hurt you ?” - he raised a brow.

She remained quiet because he was right.

“It's him who has rivals and enemies. And because of him you both are in constant danger.” - he said, making her frown.

“Both ?” - she asked, confused.

“You and your baby Sam.”

Her heart dropped to the pit of her stomach. She felt like her baby was laid in the middle of a street while guns being pointed at him from every angle. The visual cut through her gut and her palm, on its own, went over belly protectively.

“No...” - she whispered.

He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “I didn't mean to cause you stress Sam but... that's a ground reality that you need to face. As long as you are with Rajveer, you and your baby are not safe.”

To Samaira, the palace seemed to be spinning. A million thoughts ran through her brain and her baby was in danger in each one.

No.

She would not let anything happen to her child. She needed to talk to Rajveer.

When Rajveer came home that evening, he found Samaira seated on a bench in the garden. She was quite as always but her usual calm expressions were replaced by worry. The crease on her forehead told a tale of stress. She was so deep in thoughts that didn't even notice the atmosphere had started to chill out.

Shaking his head, he took his coat off and placed it around her shoulders. The act pulled her out of her thoughts as well and she looked at him.

He felt a sharp pang at his heart as her eyes looked moist.

“Samaira...” - he kneeled down infront of her, not caring that the wet grass will ruin his clothes, and held both her hands in his. “What is it ?”

“Leave everything.” - she said. Her tone was demanding. Authoritative. Using the rights she knew she had over him.

He stilled. If it had been anyone else, they would surely have asked leave what ? But he understood at once.

“Sama-”

“Remember you had said you can do anything for me ? Now I'm asking you to leave everything that's illegal and start over.” - she said stubbornly, her expressions stern that told him she would not listen to anything except for a ‘yes’.

“It's impossible.” - he said quietly.

Her gaze sharpened and she took her hands back. The ache in his chest worsened.

“Raj... think again. It's either you do what I'm asking, or...”

“Or ?” - he asked, his voice filled with dread.

She looked aside, not having the courage to look into his eyes while saying what she was going to.

“Or I'll leave you.”

All the breath left his lungs. He couldn't believe he was hearing that from her. Just a week ago she had been ready to die for him so what changed all of a sudden ?

“You can't be serious.” - his voice came out hoarse, his throat closing up.

She looked into his eyes again, her expressions resolute. “I am dead serious Raj.”

Tears sprang to his eyes. She couldn't be. Hadn't she expressed her undying love for him in that very same garden nearly a year ago ? Hadn't she said she couldn't live without him ? Then how come she so easily was ready to leave him ?

“I can't live without you. And our baby-”

“-who is in constant danger even before he is born!” - she snapped, shocking him. “I can't let this happen. I'm his mother and I have all the right to protect him. Even if that requires...” - her voice shook here. “Ev-even if that requires... l-leaving you...” - she choked out.

Tears rolled down her cheeks but she wiped them away and composed herself.

“So, what's your decision ?” - she asked.

He held her hands again, desperation taking him over. “Samaira please try to understand, me leaving anything won't stop my rivals. They will only rest after killing me. There's no other way for it.”

More tears fell from her eyes but she smiled sadly. “I understand Raj but... I can't stay here anymore.” - she took her hands back and he felt panic rising in him. She stood up and he shot to his feet as well.

“You can't do this to me. I won't be able to live without you Samaira please...” - he pleaded, holding her by the shoulders.

But she was unfazed. She pushed his hands off her shoulders and started walking towards the palace.

He was frozen on his spot. Unable to move. She returned ten minutes later with a suitcase and moved towards the car. The entire staff and guards watched in shock as Rajveer Shekhawat fell on his knees, his eyes locked with Samaira from afar who was now seated on the back seat of the car and instructed the chauffeur to move.

“Don't go please...” - he whispered to himself as he watched the car cross the gates and disappear from the sight.

“Samaira!” - his loud scream rang in the air, shaking the walls of the palace and probably reaching all the way to the skies.

Everything had ended for him. Nothing was left.
