Don't have to believe

Just keep one day for Spirit

Listen more than speak

Before continuing, a distinction worth noting is that I am not religious; however, I have often aspired to be more spiritual. That is, when my appetites have permitted it.

I remember a guru telling us once (insert Indian accent), "God is inside you."

My response? "So, what's the deal? In case of emergency, break glass?" That ended the session.

I have often said things that received no reply or were deemed inappropriate by others. It began as a kid trying to enjoy being in a classroom. I believe a class clown might simply be someone bored and without an internal editor. And so, of course, I became an editor, and a teacher, for others. We all do what we ourselves must learn. Correct?

To further establish my credibility, I will now delve into one of the ancient mysteries of life: Is a chicken the egg's way to produce more eggs, or is the egg the chicken's way to have more chickens? We're all lonely and want a world with more of our own kind in it. And, as long as we don't neglect each other's needs, does it matter who came first?

And that brings us to the topic of topics. Is there anything that has been explored more and understood less than love? What is it anyway? Where does it come from? How can one get it and keep it? And, if given away will one have more or less of it?

Somebody somewhere once said something like "I would rather love things I cannot have than to have things I cannot love." I get that, but how does one wind up in such a situation? I always gave good beginnings in relationships, but maintaining that love energy was difficult. It was easier longing for someone else, imagining it would be better elsewhere, than to learn how to care for love.

I wrote this in a letter to a woman I once pursued: "In terms of sheer abundance of desirable traits, I am your logical Prince Charming, except that I look like a frog and you won't kiss me to see if I'll change into a prince. You're probably afraid you'll get warts. I guess I can understand that. But, how many princes have you kissed who later turned into frogs? Which transformation is the more disappointing? Seems to me, one would do better to start with the frog. At least in that case one would know right away if the dream were true. For when it comes to kissing princes and princesses, you just never know when they will turn frog on you."
