Some Days

Reluctant to add to my life, this morning I tried the other direction and deleted inactive, deceased, and unknown people from various lists. Not exactly spring cleaning, but there was no dust, no fuss, and didn't even need work clothes to do it.

Don't know about you, but I've become more concerned about the role of artificial intelligence in cyber scams. I've already been receiving more sophisticated text, email, and Messenger ploys to part money and identity from where they belong. And, I don't like it.

The one today that got this going came from someone I knew back when we were teen-agers. It included a recent photo of him and a phone number from the right area code. Easy to have been fooled, but checking first with mutual friends confirmed he had been hacked.

Once upon an electronic time, I reveled in the growing network and learning about the intertwining connections that were once mainly revealed at funeral or memorial services, but now it seems more safeguards are necessary. It's sad something that potentially can bring so many together is being exploited this way. Oh well, I also remember the sexual revolution fondly, but it did illuminate unanticipated issues from having too much of a good thing. There are always consequences, but golly gee, getting infected long distance, without even the benefit of touch, is really a drag!

With a small sense of accomplishment, I went for what turned out to be a very short bike ride as I almost immediately fell off of it. I swear, it felt as if I were tripped or something. I really can't explain what happened. But, I was a bloody mess. Knee, elbow, and palm of hand. I can't even remember the last time anything like this has happened. What is happening to me?

Rattled, I returned home to clean up. Susan helped with bandages. I was glad she was back home. I had a dentist appointment next — an old crown had been chipping off in pieces and needed to be replaced — and I didn't want to be bleeding all over the place.

At the dentist office, the first surprise was that there was a brand new assistant. It was her second day. I prefer to use nitrous oxide, but she somehow managed to mess up the machine and a tech was needed to fix it. What followed was a dental marathon. Seven diamond tipped drill bits later, the dentist finally proclaimed victory. I was in the chair for two hours.

Afterwards, I met some friends for lunch. I decided it would be best if I drank mine, but the keg blew with the mug half-filled. I said I'd take it anyway and sat down with it. The next guy who arrived bumped the table and the half of a beer spilled on my lap.

Yeah, some days are like that, but anyone else think they're happening way too often?

Meanwhile, even as I write these words, another storm is rolling in. The sky has darkened and I can hear the thunder getting closer. I think it's time to just get back into bed. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
