The Author Interrupts!

Whoa! Slow down, Lee. What in the Sam Hill is going on?! Okay, this requires some explanation; thus this interruption of a story in progress.

Briefly, during the pandemic, I submitted a collection of writings to Latah Books. The publisher accepted, but wanted it to be more of a memoir. Thus, Sticky Karma was hatched. In the revision process, many of my original ideas were cut. I had the notion to incorporate some of them into what has been growing into this science fiction autobiography, Who Dad?!

In the early days of this project, the first images from the Webb telescope were released (July, 2022) and so I had representatives of the Galactic Tourist Overboard considering the implications of this accomplishment. One suggested how it might be used to accelerate our awareness and prepare humanity for galactic citizenship (posted on Wattpad 7/30/23).

When I first wrote those words in 2022, I had no idea of how I would follow through. (Btw, a rough draft was sent to Latah Books late in 2022, so there is a chronological record of this.) Tell the truth, I forgot about it. Until yesterday, when I first saw the red question mark image from Webb. OMG! Of course, I immediately included it in this evolving narrative, but have been feeling both charged and uneasy ever since.

Earlier in the writing than previously planned, I shifted away from the more autobiographical and attempted to weave current events into the narrative to make it more topical. Throughout, the character Lee talks about being surprised by what he was writing, but the author Lee was also having similar experiences.

Now, I'm actually nervous about continuing to write. It is definitely shifting the telling . . . .

At lunch today, talking to a friend and my son, Ryan, about it, he kidded that maybe, since I'm one of the few without a smart phone, I'm just more available for whatever wants to be told. But who, or what, is doing the telling?!
