Alex found himself consumed with regret and self-blame.

He couldn't shake the thought that he had let Kate down, and that his foolishness had cost him the love of a lifetime.

He sat alone in his room, his mind filled with painful dialogues with himself.

"How could I have been so stupid?" he berated himself. "I should have known better than to go along with that dare.

"Kate left the country," Lucy told him, her voice filled with disappointment and anger. "She couldn't bear to stay here after what you did to her."

Alex's heart sank, his hopes shattered into a million pieces.

He felt like he had hit rock bottom. "No," he whispered, unable to comprehend that he had lost the chance to make things right with Kate. "I was too late."

Lucy's face was filled with a mix of sadness and frustration.

"Do you realize the pain you caused her?" she asked, her voice trembling with emotion.

"She loved you, Alex. She trusted you with her heart, and you broke it without a second thought."
