🌻Miles' POV

"No."

He shut her down. He was cold and quipped. I thought he was an ally?!

"My Spiderman days are long gone. I just want to live a simple life under the radar. I don't have the privilege to swing through the city freely anymore" He looked down at his hands. His vibe was unrecognizable. I couldn't get a read on him. I felt a shiver down my spine. He hadn't said or done anything to provoke this feeling, but I couldn't help it.

"Pardon me, but do you have any ice cream here... and toast. It's been a minute since I had any." I snapped my head at Kori.

"Out of all times. What are you even doing?" I whispered to Kori. That did no justice, Miles-17217 could hear us loud and clear. Surprisingly, he smiled to himself. "You want ice cream toast? That's disgusting." He dryly chuckled.

"Nuh Uh, it's good. It's-"

"The perfect combination between sweet and savory. It's smooth and spongy. You like the texture." Miles-17217 finished her sentence. It was eerie.

"How did you know what I was going to say?! Can you read minds?! Is that a spidey power?!" Kori was nerding out. It was endearing, the way she treated our mission like an adventure. Technically, it was. She was making the best out of it. Another thing I admire her for.

"No, I cannot. Congratulations to you and your Miles." The tense feeling around the room was starting to lift. Kori looked at him confused but smiled at him anyway.

"Thank you!... For what again?" I'm right there with her. He looked between us, realizing that we didn't know what he was talking about. He had a guttural laugh, and it sounded like it had been a while since he laughed.

"You remind me of her! Pure gold." He was wiping his tears. I couldn't tell if those were tears of laughter or sadness. He stood up and walked to a memorial. He picked it up and looked at it for a moment. I didn't notice the photo. It showed an older Korinna and little girl. Kori must've seen that when we walked in.

"I wasn't always like this... I guess that's the consequence of the actions I took." He held the photo as if I were the last thing he had. "I quit being Spiderman a while ago. Miles-8 doesn't know about it, but I've been through it." He set the photo down and walked over to the kitchen. He opened the freezer and took out a pint of ice cream, then reached into the cabinet and grabbed bread. Putting two slices of bread in the toaster, he began speaking.

"I was happily married. My wife Korinna and I had been together since high school. She fully accepted my confession as Spiderman and even helped me figure out missions. About 10 years into our marriage, we decided to have our first child. Billie Morales. She was gorgeous. A spitting image of us." He smiled to himself, reminiscing about his family. I knew it would take a turn for the worst. After all, there was a memorial.
