Maddie watches her phone ring on her bed, not knowing whether to pick up or not, does she want to spoil a night of fun by engaging with her mother?

Make a decision Maddie, you're wasting time.

She hesitantly answers the phone and puts it up to her ear, waiting for a response.

"Hello?" a voice says.

"I'm here."

"Nice to finally talk Madeline."

"Why are you calling me?"

She has no interest in engaging with this woman, she'd  honestly prefer if she just got to the point.

"Your dad doesn't have a lot of time left. He wants to apologize and make things right before he passes."

Maddie can feel her ears getting hot. Make it right? What a pathetic cover-up for: I don't wanna seem like a prick when I die so let me apologize for all the bullshit I've done.

"Mhm."

"Don't be like this Madeline. We're your parents, the least you can do is come down here to see him. It's been so long since that incident you need to act your fucking age and let it go."

"You know-"

She's quickly cut off by a male voice in the background. It's quiet but she can recognize it and hear every word that is being said.

"Forget it, Ruby. Her ass wouldn't come out here if we gave her a million dollars. She's always holding a fucking grudge and blaming somebody else for her sorry ass. I should be blaming her for this shit."

Maddie scoffs at her father, blinking the forming tears in her eyes away.

How are you dying but still managing to be a piece of shit?

"Delete my number. I couldn't care less about either you. He did this to himself and now he has to die knowing he was a shitty parent. Goodbye."

She hangs up the phone and starts breathing heavily. Feeling a wave of emotions, she starts to cry, her steaming tears rolling down her face, her nails digging into her palms because of how tightly closed her fist is.

She should've declined the call.

After about 2 minutes, she starts to control her breathing. Releasing her fingers from her palm and taking deep breaths she tries to relax.

"Maddie? You all good in there?" Aaliyah knocks at her door. "We can stay if you want."

"No, I'm fine." Maddie says now stepping out her room. "We look good, let's go."

From the outside of the building, Aaliyah and Maddie can hear how loud the music is. Quickly walking to the door, they get looks and compliments from others immediately.

Dressed as Starfire and Raven, the two girls know they're turning heads. Aaliyah is Raven and Maddie is Starfire.

"Hey, Aaliyah. You look good." Jimin says, looking her up and down. "Hey Maddie, you do too."
