Loud machine sound made her jerk up from her sleeping position, she hurriedly got of the mat and stared at the heart monitor fearfully, the monitor was showing unstable beating and she immediately pressed the emergency bell and ran out of the ward to get help.
As soon as she got out of the ward, she met a doctor and quickly explained what had happened, she followed him inside and picked up her phone and left the ward again, then she noticed a group of nurses rush in the ward, Faiza anxiously dialed her husband's number as she started to sob.
"Hello," Farooq answered the call half asleep as he struggled to keep his eye open.
"I don't know what's wrong with ma, please come," she cried and ended the call.
Farooq's eyes widened as he jumped out of the bed and alerted Arwa who tailed behind him, he didn't even bother dressing up or answering any of Arwa's questioning, instead he headed for the car started the engine and drove to the hospital as soon as Arwa entered.
Faiza stuck to her words and stayed at the hospital throughout for the past week, praying for Aliyah's health to get better but unfortunately it neither got better nor did it get worse, it only remained static.
The beeping of the monitor was the only new thing ever since and Faiza could tell it was a bad thing considering how the doctor was yelling at the nurses and how anxious the nurses were.
Despite all what Aliyah has done to her, Faiza would never in a million years wish death upon her, and her death would only mean the beginning of misery in her household.
Farooq arrived at the hospital roughly 10 minutes later with Arwa tagging behind him, he rushed down the hallway and didn't even acknowledge Faiza who was seating in tears, he just dashed into the ward and Faiza widened her eyes and stood from her seat, but barely seconds later, Farooq was pushed out of the ward.
Faiza sat back down as quietly as she could, it seemed like he didn't want to talk to her and she didn't know which was more painful, the pain of abandonment from her beloved husband or the pain of losing yet another person even if the person wasn't her favorite.
She played with her fingers as she watched Arwa pacify Farooq and tried to cheer him up; unsure of what to do, Faiza stood up and headed to the mosque where she prayed some nawafil for tahajjud and prayed for everyone's safety.
She returned to the hallway and after what felt like hours, the doctors left the ward and uttered a word she couldn't get over.
"I'm sorry, but we couldn't safe her," her head banged immediately and she fell to her knees as her breathing hitched, her body started to shake violently and she let out a scream as she cried, seated on the hospital ground.
She was too focused on her own mourning to even notice her husband who was obviously in the state of denial.
Farooq just kept on staring at his wives who were crying for the loss of their mother-in-law, he was unsure of what to do, did his mother really die? He sighed as he pinched himself multiple times to ensure he wasn't sleeping.
He stood up and walked towards the ward and tried to open the door but was stopped by some nurses who claimed he wasn't stable enough to see her at that state, he got angry and stormed off the hospital.
Arwa rushed after him but by the time she got outside, he had already drove off, it was very early in the morning and it was harder to get a cab, even though she didn't like to speak to Faiza, she had no choice than to swallow her ego and talk to her.
Faiza bursted into a fresh new set of tears when Farooq stormed out of the hospital, Arwa noticed from afar and frowned at her level of mourning, she couldn't figure out what it was, despite Aliyah's treatment towards Faiza.
