Faiza wasn't aware the little encounter she had was powerful enough to bring her to tears as she recalled everything she'd been through as she was growing up, before she became a therapist, before she met her husband, after she met him, their married life and how things took a sharp turn after he married another woman.
Her heart was heavy and she lost her smile barely days after, she was walking around with a sense of lostness. Her eyes were hollow within only a few days and she lost some weight from not eating properly.
Series of tests were conducted on her and she was placed face to face with Mrs Adams who observed her and Mrs Adams placed Lilly on three full days of working hours to ask her what happened from her point of view and to watch her throughout along with Diana.
She was to be treated and observed after every treatment. And after a few questionings, Mrs Adams instructed her supervisors to keep her in the hospital vicinity at all times.
Faiza sighed as she closed the door behind her and laid on the bed, she stared at the ceiling and Diana entered after her and sat on the other bed. She stared quietly at Faiza who seemed to be lost in her thoughts.
Faiza bite her lower lip as she tried hard to get the thoughts away from her mind but all to no avail.
And then she burst into tears. Diana rushed over to her side and sat besides her, she urged Faiza to sit up which she did and then she gave her a tight hug.
"Why? Why do I have to go through all this huh?" She cried and Diana only hugged her tighter.
"Do you know what happened to me? Do you?" She continued and Diana shook her head although she knew all about her from her report.
"I know you do, I know you do," she hiccuped and wiped her tears as fresh set of tears rushed down her cheeks.
"My father was violent with my mum, he beat her up everyday until she died and after her death, my father abused my sisters and I," Diana sat up properly to look at her as she saw speaking, Faiza kept her gaze on her fingers which were laying on her laps as she told the story.
"Fawziyyah and Farhan, he sexually abused my sisters and I Diana, until they died from the severity. And after weeks of their death, they started to stink and the neighbors called the police and that's how they saved me from him, I would've died like my sisters, Diana, I would have died!" She cried harder.
"But it didn't end there, I had nightmares every night after that and I couldn't control my bladder. When I was taken to the hospital they discovered my womb was damaged and they did a surgery to get it out and they also fixed my bladder. I was also taken to a psychiatrist hospital and there they discovered I had PTSD, my therapist was so nice with me and I decided to be a therapist too."
"And after a lot of hard work and sweat and by the help of Allah, I got there. I got successful and I was happy and everyone loved my work. I never for once thought about marriage because I know there's almost no man who'd willingly decide to stay childless with me, and I don't have the ability to handle a co-wife until I met Farooq and he was so good to me in the beginning," she cried as Diana tapped her back as she blinked away her own tears herself.
"He was so good to me in the beginning until -" her words were cut short by the door opening, she turned her head sharply to see Rose rushing in then dropping her handbag on the floor and rushed to embrace Faiza.
Faiza opened her arms as fresh set of tears poured out of her eyes, Rose pacified her and said some soothing words to her and before she knew it, Faiza was calm and quiet.
"I'm going to excuse you guys for a bit, I'll be watching from the monitor though," she said and walked out of the room while Rose said little words of appreciation.
