Faiza quickly got out of her car and slammed the door out of hurry, she grimaced as the door made a loud banging sound but she rushed away from the car and stopped to look for the keys in her bag, she kept searching for a while before she found it, she pulled it out of her bag and raised up her head, only to come face to face with the Imam who was wearing a warm smile.
'Oh no, I'm already late as it is,'
She thought as she bit her lower lip and greeted him briefly and then dropping her gaze to the ground."Salam alaikum sister Faiza,' the Imam smiled at her and asked permission to speak to her.
She sighed and nodded slowly, "No problem, let me quickly go in and register my name," she replied and the Imam nodded, she rushed into the therapy center and registered her name at the reception.
"Give me a few minutes Rose, find someone to cover for me, just a few minutes," she said to Rose who nodded at her, she dropped her bag with Rose and headed back outside as slowly as she could out of nervousness.
She joined Imam Nassir at the side of her car where he was waiting for her, she stopped a few feet away from him and played with her fingers as she anticipated what he was about to say.
She knew she shouldn't have neglected his calls for the past few weeks and she wasn't also supposed to leave them hanging, she should've said she wasn't interested immediately, but she ended up acting based on her emotions anyways.
"We didn't see you since that day, what happened?" Imam Nassir asked straightforwardly, his tone was firm but not harsh.
She sighed and shook her head after a while, she didn't have any tangible reason to have ghosted them.
"What do you want?" He asked.
"Am I marrying him just to take care of him?" She asked instead.
"No, you're not, I just felt like you would be the best for him because you know how to handle him, but if you think that's the case, you can reject this proposal, instead of keeping him hanging, don't you think?" He asked gently.
She nodded her head with her lips pursed, she didn't know what to say so she just stood there staring at her shoes the whole time as she expected him to talk.
"You could come to the mosque when you're ready for a brief meeting and maybe getting to know each other if you're interested, and if you're not, you can always send me a text message, after a week, if I don't hear from you then I'm going to cancel it. Don't let me hold you up for too long, enjoy your day, Salam alaikum," he said and again offered her a smile before he walked away.
Faiza slowly raised her head and very inaudibly uttered, "Wa alaikum salaam," she stood in her spot for almost five minutes after he had left, just thinking about all he had said and what she would do.
She eventually dragged her feet to her office and threw herself on the couch, deep in thoughts.
A knock on her door brought her out of her daze as she uttered a very faint, "Come in," she was still lying on the couch when Rose opened the door and waved Faiza's handbag at her with a smile.
"Seems like you forgot something," Rose grinned as she dropped Faiza's bag on the desk and walked over to the couch and held her hand.
"Are you okay, Faiza?" She asked and Faiza could only nod and thank her. Rose decided not to pester her and instead stayed for a little while to keep her company, luckily, her co receptionist was on duty so she didn't have to worry about leaving her work post.
She left after a while and Faiza stood up to rearrange her office, all while she was deep in thoughts.
She never knew the thought of getting marriage would bring her so distress like she was going through, do all women go through this or was it just her? She wondered.
