"What do you want to know?" Gabriel asked, as he motioned to the bed and we sat down. I was doing a little victory dance in my head, excited that my plan was working out. I knew I had to choose my questions carefully. Start simple, then work my way up. This could also be a chance to learn more about his and Michael's relationship.
"Well, the most obvious question is why you're doing this?"
"I think I've made that pretty clear already."
"Well yes, you say that it's because we don't deserve this world and that your kind would be better suited to rule. But humans have have been dominant over this planet for millions of years. Why now?"
"Because Gods absence is a perfect opportunity to take what was rightfully ours from the start. And when he returns, he'll realize his mistake."
"Ok, this is where I don't understand. You keep saying that he'll realize his mistake, but how do you know that he won't in fact be angry with your choices in his absence. If he wanted the planet rid of humans, I'm sure he would have done it by now. But I don't see you giving any proof that this is what he wants. What if you are mistaken in doing this?"
"I'm not mistaken, I guarantee you."
"But how can you be so sure? You are providing absolutely no evidence to support your claims." I was getting really frustrated, I'm a cop....was a cop, I need hard evidence.
"I don't need any proof, I know it in my heart that it's the right thing to do. But if you want proof, then how about the fact that God was weary and disappointed in the human race. He couldn't stand the sight of what you were doing to the Earth and each other. All your sins corrupting this world. His gift to you and you all just abused it. I have no doubt that, that is why he left in the first place."
"Yes I admit that humans have their flaws, I know that better than anyone. And I know that each day we are destroying this world and each other bit by bit. You say we're filled with violence, but you are doing the exact same thing. Killing millions of people in your personal escapade. And while some might deserve it, there are thousands of others who do not. So how are you any different?" He looked surprised by my response, and it took him a while to answer.
"Because I'm doing it for a worthy cause. For something that matters. You humans just kill each other for the hell of it. At least I'm fighting for something." I scoffed and stood up in anger and started pacing. It's like I was talking to a child.
"I believe it's my turn to ask you some questions." I stopped pacing and looked at him.
"Excuse me?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"It's only fair that I get to interrogate you as you did me."
"I did not interrogate you."
"Call it what you wish." I went back and forth between allowing him to ask me questions or not. But I thought that if I didn't answer his questions he's not going to answer any of mine anymore.
"Fine." He smiled triumphantly, knowing that I wouldn't refuse.
"Ok, my first question is what do you see in my brother?" My eyes widened in surprise, that is not what I expected.
"How is that of any relevance?" I asked stalling, not wanting to answer the question, to him anyway.
"To me it is. You see, over the centuries the ladies always go for my brother. Now I know that he's handsome, but I would like to believe that I share some of those traits. After all, we are brothers." I looked at him for a couple of seconds, not sure what to say at first.
"I want complete honesty." He said, sensing my hesitation.
"Ok, um, well like you said he is quite attractive." I said, thinking about his piercing blue eyes, his soft black hair, his rock hard chest, his strong and defined body, those luscious kissable lips. I came out of my daze and noticed Gabriel staring at me, as if knowing what I was thinking.
"Right, well is not just about his looks. He's a good man....angel. He's beautiful outside and in. He has such a good heart, always looking out for others, he's selfless that way. He's amazingly sweet and solicitous. I've never met anyone with such a pure heart. He's intelligent and strong, he's a fighter. Fighting for what he believes in, for what's right. And that's where his determination comes out, he doesn't give up no matter the obstacle. And that's a most honorable trait." As I described Michael, I was asking myself how in the world someone like that, took interest in me. And realized how lucky I was to have met him. Gabriel looked at me, not saying anything. His expression was unreadable. Then finally he responded.
"You talk of my brother as if he is perfect. You obviously don't know him as well you think you do."
"I know about his past. He told me of the things he's done. The things that you influenced him to do. But what matters is that he's trying to make up for his wrong doings, which is more than I can say for you. Let me ask you something. How could you kill the girl he loved, was it all out of jealousy?" He was stunned by my question.
"He told you about her?" His question barely audible.
"Well, not really. He just told me that you killed the woman he loved because you couldn't find love yourself." He started laughing, confusing me.
"Ah, my brother always making me look like the bad guy. Typical."
"It is true, isn't it?"
"In a way, I guess it is." His voice got all serious.
"I don't understand." He got up from the bed, and for a moment I thought he was leaving, but then he just went to the window and looked outside at the gloomy view.
"Her name was Anastasia..."
