Scarlett's POV
When I got to Adalia's house I was crying hard. When she saw me she didn't ask any questions. She just let me in and told me to sit down while she made tea, knowing that I don't drink coffee. After I calmed down a little I told her what happened.
"I don't understand why the hell I'm feeling like this. I shouldn't be upset that he has girls over. I mean it's his house. And it's not like I own him. He's not mine." I said, taking a sip of the tea.
"But you want him to be yours." She stated.
"No, I don't. I..." I started but she interrupted me.
"Scarlett I'm going to be honest with you. After everything you've told me about him, it's obvious that you have feelings for him. I mean, the way you talk about him you could tell the way you admire him. But you're trying to deny those feelings, even though they're staring at you right in the face bright and clear. And I don't understand why. Besides it's evident that he also has feelings for you as well. I mean he let you stay in his home, he didn't punish you for going outside the wall. And he is really strict about that. He wouldn't do that for anybody else. Believe me." I took a minute to let all she said sink in. And I realized she was absolutely right. I did have feelings for Michael but I didn't want to admit it because I knew there was no chance to be with him.
"You're right. You're absolutely right. I'm not sure about him having feelings for me, though. But it doesn't matter. Anyway, I should go. Thank you for everything." I said, standing up to go.
"You could sleep here if you want. If it's too awkward to go back to Michael's. I have an extra bedroom." She said with a smile.
"I would love that. But I have to go back. I have to get up early for work tomorrow. And his house is closer to the precinct, and I left my uniform there as well."
"Well, if you ever need a place to stay my door is always open."
"Thank you. I really appreciate that." I stated as I hugged her and left.
When I got to Michaels apartment, my uniform wasn't in the hallway where I left it. I opened the door and saw Michael on the balcony. I tried to go as quickly as possible to the bedroom, not wanting to talk to him.
"Scarlett." I heard Michael say. Crap.
"Yes?" I said in a sweet voice.
"I put your uniform in the bedroom on your bed."
"Oh, thank you." I said turning to go.
"Wait." Michael said, as he started walking towards me.
"Yes?"
"I just wanted to talk about what happened earlier."
"Listen you don't have nothing to apologize for if that's what you're about to say. It's my fault. I keep walking in on the wrong moments." I said with a tight smile.
"Scarlett..."
"What?" I asked annoyed.
"You're right. I don't have anything to apologize for and I wasn't going to. You're the guest here. And you need to work on your timing or move out already." He said in a bitter voice as he walked away. Wow. What the hell? I didn't say anything, I just went into the bedroom, slamming the door.
In the morning I got a call from Mr.Stark giving me the address of where I have to go, and that there has been a homicide. When me and Bruce got to the location, there were already other police officers there taking notes and talking to civilians. I put on my gloves and went under the tape.
"What have we got?" I asked one of the police officers.
"Caucasian female, looks about early twenties. Jogger found her this morning. She seems to have been dead since last night." I bend down to examine the body. Her throat was cut, which made me think of my mom. I shuddered and continued to look at the body. Her dress was pulled up to her waist and her underwear was down to her ankle. Which indicated that she might have been raped. After I finished examining the body I went and talked to the detectives and gave them all the details. There were no witnesses. Nobody heard or saw anything. The detectives took it from there. But I couldn't stop thinking about it. Why would he slit her throat? In rape situations, the criminal usually strangles the victim. For the rest of the day Bruce and I patrolled the city. And we got to know each other better. We actually had a lot of things in common. There wasn't much commotion. It was a small city, and people right now are probably more worried about the outcast and Gabriel than killing each other. When out shift ended we went back to the precinct to tie things up. As I was leaving, Bruce came up to me and said in a nervous voice
"Listen Scarlett. I know it's probably a bit too soon but I really like you. So would you maybe like to go out sometime?" I thought about it. What harm can it do? Besides it would get my mind off things, like Michael.
"Sure. That would be great." I replied with a smile.
"Great. How about tomorrow? I'll pick you up at seven?"
"Ok. I'll see you tomorrow."
