"We're almost there." I told my mom, looking at the GPS. We've been on the road for four days now, taking turn driving and sleeping in the car. It's the not the most comfortable place but we can't afford to waste any money on a motel. The money that we had saved was for renting a small apartment when we get to Amsterdam and for necessities until I get another job. I used to work as a cop studying to be an FBI agent. So maybe I can find something similar there.

"It's about time, I'm really getting sick of being stuck in a car all day." My mom replied.

"I know what you mean, you remember that I used to get motion sickness when I was younger? It's better now, but I still get sick to my stomach and feel like I have to throw up after hours in the car." I said thinking about that horrible feeling.

"I know sweetie, and I'm sorry. I should have gotten you one of those motion sickness pills." My mom said looking at me with a regretful look on her face.

"It's fine mom. We should just be grateful that we haven't ran into any of Gabriel's outcast angels. And that now there's not a lot of traffic." I said looking outside the window. Actually, we were the only car on the road. There was a lot of commotion at first as we were leaving. Everybody was hurrying to get to Amsterdam. There was panic everywhere. I understand the reason for it, but when a crisis arises, it's best to stay away from other people. They tend to do a lot of irrational things when they're scared. I looked over at my mom. She kept changing the stations on the car radio. She was very picky. I looked forward on the road and I saw I figure in the middle of it.

"Mom! Look out!" I shouted. My moms attention quickly returned to the road. She turned the wheel abruptly, and the car swerved to the left avoiding hitting the person my mere inches. I'm holding on for my dear life as my mom hits the breaks.

"Scarlett? Are you ok, sweetie?" My mom asks looking at me up and down searching for any kind of injury.

"Yeah I'm fine, mom. Don't worry about me. Should we go and check on that lunatic that just stands in front of the fucking road, waiting to get hit by a car?" I asked, really pissed off and a little scared.

"Hey, watch your tongue young lady. You may be twenty four years old, but your still my daughter." My mom said looking at me with a warning in her eyes.

"Ok. Fine I'm sorry. Now should we go check on him?" I said looking out the window. But he was gone.

"Uhhh, mom. He's gone." I said looking around everywhere to see where he went.

"Well there's nothing we can do about that. Maybe he was a drunk and realized that he was standing in the middle of the road and he came to his senses and went away." My mom said trying to start the engine but it wouldn't budge.

"What the hell? Why isn't the car starting? The gas tank is full." My mom asked frustrated.

"Maybe there's something wrong with the engine." I said still thinking about the guy.

"Ok let's check it out." My mom said as we got out of the car. Before we got the chance to open the hood of the car a dark figure appeared in front of the car. I couldn't see his face it was too dark. But I had a feeling that it was the same person that we almost hit.

"Are you the guy that was standing in the middle of the road just a few minutes ago?" I asked. He didn't say anything. Instead he took a step closer.

"Ok buddy listen. We don't know who you are or what you want so I suggest you just move along and let us go on with our business." My mom said trying to act thought but I knew she was a little frightened by him. The guy took another step closer.

"Scarlett get in the car." My mom said in a whisper so only I could hear. We both hurried to get in the car, but before we could even open the door, the guy came behind my mom and took her in a head lock.

"Let go of her!" I yelled. My mom kept trying to get free of him but his grip on her was too strong.

"I don't think so." The guy said, tightening his grip.

"What the hell do you want?" I asked keeping him talking, while trying to figure out a way to help my mom.

"Dominance." He said while he unfurled his black wings.

"Your an outcast." I whispered, my eyes wide with shock. And then I remembered. I'm a cop. I'm carrying a gun in case we were to run into the outcasts. What the hell was wrong with me these days? I took my gun out of the holster and pointed it at the outcast.

"Let her go or I will blow your fucking brains out." I said trying to look tough.

"Scarlett go, get out of here. Don't worry about me. Just go." My mom said looking me in the eyes. I know she wanted me to escape. She will sacrifice her life for me. I know that. Which is why I couldn't leave.

"No. If you think I'm leaving you, you're crazy." I said still pointing my gun at the outcast.

"Come on. Take your best shot." The outcast said with a sly grin on his face. I wanted to but he was holding my mom like a shield. I didn't have a clear shot of him without injuring her.

"I will if you don't let her go." But we both knew I couldn't.

"Have it you way." As soon as he said that, he took a knife from his coat pocket and slit her throat as she mouthed the words I love you.

"Nooooo." I screamed. I started firing my gun at him without thinking. My vision was blurred by my tears. But he dropped my moms body and surrounded himself with his wings. Forming an impenetrable shield as the bullets hit his wings with no affect. I kept firing, the sound of the gun echoing through the night, until I ran out of bullets. I dropped the gun to the floor and I ran. I ran like a coward into the dark night.
