Scarlett's POV

During my break at work, I went and visited Adalia. When she opened the door she engulfed me in a hug that almost knocked me off my feet.

"I was so worried." She said after she let go of me, and closed the door as she invited me in.

"So was I. I'm really glad you're ok." I said as I sat down on her couch. I told her everything that happened. About the outcast and Michael.

"Wow. Well, your rage is understandable. You've been bottling it all in and when you saw the outcast everything exploded. You're not a monster. Besides that little prick deserved it. And now I know that I don't need to worry about you because you can kick ass." She said with a smile and I had to laugh.

"Now let's talk about this whole thing with Michael. How was the kiss?"

"Honestly, it was incredible. It felt like we were the only ones in the world. I know that sounds cliché but that's how it felt. But it doesn't matter, he said it was a mistake and that it won't happen again."

"Scarlett don't you see? There's a reason for that. It's not because he doesn't have feelings for you because he obviously does, but he's trying not to get close to you. There must have been something that happened in his past which makes him afraid of getting close to people. That makes him so distant. And you have to confront him about it."

"Are you kidding? I can't do that. I have no right. And if he's so distant then how come he has sex with so many girls?"

"Those girls are just distraction. Just a fling. They don't mean anything to him."

"Still..." I wasn't good at confrontation.

"Fine. Then you'll be alone forever." I glared at her.

"I'm just saying. If you want something, you have to take it. And I'm pretty sure you want Michael. Badly." I threw one of the pillows that she had on her couch at her, and she just laughed. We talked some more and then I left because I had to get back to work.

------------------------------------------

When I got back to Michaels apartment he was already there.

"How's your hand?" He asked as I got out of the bathroom.

"It's fine, thank you for asking." I replied, the feeling of awkwardness hanging in the air.

"That's good. I'm glad." He stated.

"So...what's going to happen now that the president is dead?" Michael explained his plan and I though it was really great. Head of the City sounded better than president, considering the conditions.

"So who's going to be Head of the City?"

"The senate will decide that."

"How come it can't be you? You're already taking care of the city, you would be perfect for the job."

"No. I think the people will feel more comfortable with a human as the Head of the City. I already have other responsibilities to ensure the safety of this city."

"Ok. It makes sense. Well I'm going to go to bed. Good night."

"Goodnight Scarlett."

Gabriel's POV

It was almost too easy getting into the city. My poor brother, thinking that the wall and his angels are strong enough to stop me. Thinking that he could protect all the souls on Earth. If only he would would join me things would be so much easier. But he was always too emotionally weak. Too caring. And it's my duty to him to make him stronger. To set him straight. Just like I did before. But ever since that human girl came into his life, he has started to slip. I could see it in his eyes. He has feelings for her and it has to stop. I dropped unto the balcony and opened the glass doors knowing that Michael wouldn't be home. He was too busy catching every higher angel in the city and finding out which ones were working for me. I walked towards the bedroom, sensing her. I opened the door. There she was. Scarlett.
