"About time!" Caden shouts from the table. Picked through food and scattered drinks fill the table, nonetheless the entire group wears a huge smile on their face as Jack and I walk up to them.
The entire group, except Kai.
We exchange the most awkward smile as I sit back down next to him, trying my best to avoid the conversation.
Not the talk about the date of course, but the conversation about the stupid ass smile Jack had on his face while we walked past Kai. Which yes I noticed.
"You have fun?" He asks nudging my shoulder.
Well shit.
"Yeah, yeah it was fun, nothing crazy just got a shirt." I respond shyly nodding towards Jack's new shirt. Which looks SO freaking good on him by the way.
Jack smiles and takes a sip of his drink while Soph floods him with questions about god knows what. He throws his head back uncontrollably laughing at something she says and my eyes immediately dart to the dimples I could bury myself in.
"Stop eye-fucking him, Goldy." Caden whispers. I snap my head towards him and instantly feel myself getting flustered.
"Knock it off, Tanner." I scold kicking his leg under the table.
"Sorry, Mom." He whispers again, saluting me.
"Yeah, seemed like Jack enjoyed himself." Kai replies sharply, bringing the attention back to me.
"What do you mean?" I ask pursing my lips. Good one, Renna, just act clueless.
"Nothing." Kai murmurs.
I exchange a quick glance with Soph and I'm blessed she can read my lips.
Get me out of here, I mouth in hopes she got that.
"We should probably head back, Miles will probably call in a few anyways." Soph insists standing up from the table.
"Yeah, I hope everything's good with, Palmer." Ford murmurs throwing two, hundred dollar bills on the table, paying for the tab.
"The dude is a Titan. Whatever is going on, I'm sure he'll handle it. And if not, he's has you, me, and Jack to help." Caden says assuring not only Ford, but also Soph and I.
"Nah, you won't be much help, Tanner. Just sit there and look pretty." Jack teases giving Caden's shoulder a firm pat.
Soph and I giggle at his joke which instantly makes him turn towards me with a smile. I love when he does that, decides to be the funniest person in the room, just to see if I laughed.
"Food coma!" Soph whines doing a trust fall on Ford. My brother catches her with ease and carry's her back to her truck.
"Me too, Cam!" Caden mimics fall into Jack.
"Come here, princess!" He jokes in response, catching Caden and pushing him to his feet.
Kai and I trail behind the others and with each step he slowly moves closer to me. I shake off the guilty feeling of constantly 'ditching' him, when he seems to do nothing about it each time.
With summer just a few days away, a couple more finals for school, and Ryder's being open, life feels so good right now. Everything feels right. Everything except how I feel about Kai. I haven't had a chance to really talk to him and I think taking that step and exploring is important.
"Hey, Aug." Kai says starting the conversation. He shoves his hands in his front pocket and cocks his head towards me waiting for a response.
"Hey, Kai. Sorry about earlier, I-"
