Chapter 2

Aria opened her eyes and she looked around the room. To her right she jumped a little to see Viscount Jake sleeping while sitting on the chair he was sitting on.

She held out her hand to Jake to see if she was in a dream. To her surprise, Jake caught her hand before she could even touch him.

They made eye contact and Jake got embarrassed quickly.

"A-ah! Lady Duncan, you are awake!" Jake said as he let go of Ari's hand quickly.

"Sorry for trying to touch you without your consent, Viscount...but may I know where I am or why you are here?" Ari asked. She was confused after all, the last thing she remembers is being pushed by someone.

"M'lady, you are currently at the palace infirmary, Prince Caelias and Lady Callista gave me the responsibility to look after you while you were unconscious" Jake calmly explained to Ari.

"Where's Lady Aderi? I was supposed to meet her that day..." Ari quickly asked about her dearest friend as she sat up.

"She's currently in trial..." Jake responded honestly as he looked away.

"WHAT!? WHY!?" Ari yelled as she looked back at Jake with shock all over her face. She doesn't know why Aderi was on trial. She's so confused since to her Aderi is the kindest and coolest person she has ever met.

"She is suspected to be the one who attempted to kill you and she is being charged and trialed for the crime right now, m'lady" Jake again responded with honesty as he continued to avoid Ari's gaze.

"VISCOUNT PLEASE TAKE ME THERE!" Ari said with tears forming in her eyes as she took Jake's hand.

"M-my lady...I can't, I'm sorry" Jake said refusing.

"PLEASE! YOU KNOW SHE WOULDN'T DO THAT TO ME! SHE WASN'T THE ONE WHO DID IT! PLEASE TAKE ME TO LADY ADERI" Ari said as she cried, She was devastated to hear her friend was being accused. She wants to go there right now and tell everyone her dearest friend is innocent.

"I'm sorry, but I cannot take a patient who just regained consciousness outside, it's the law" Jake again said refusing.

"Please...Viscount Jake...please" Ari pleaded. They made eye contact and Jake could not take it anymore.

"I'll get a scolding later both from Prince Caelias and Lady Callista but...sure, let's go, m'lady," Jake said with a small smile, Ari's eyes sparkled with joy and hope.

"THANK YOU! THANK YOU VISCOUNT!" Ari said happily. Jake took off his cloak and put it on Ari.

"I don't know if the trial has already started or if it has ended already, let's hope we get there on time...please wear this as I sneak you out of here," Jake said as he pulled the hood of the cloak over Ari's head with a small smile still in his face.

"Yes, thank you!" Ari smiled happily.

"I must have gone crazy to give in to her like this..." Jake thought to himself as he helped Ari stand up.

"Your honor, just please give our evidence a chance!" Caelias said not backing down.

"Like I said, Your Highness, this doesn't prove Lady Callista's innocence--" The judge said but was interrupted by the courtroom being opened in a hurry.

"LADY ADERI IS INNOCENT! SHE'S INNOCENT!" Ari yelled as she stood in front of the door panting, next to her was Jake.

"Lady Ari!" Aderi called out shocked that her dearest friend had finally awoken.

"LADY ADERI!!" Ari said as tears fell from her eyes, she didn't waste another moment to run to Aderi giving her a huge hug.

"I'm sorry Lady Aderi...because of me...you almost got charged with a crime you didn't do," Ari said crying in Aderi's embrace.
