The next few weeks were awkward, grueling, and exhausting... Yet at the same time they were so rewarding and invigorating. Although the chores were a handful and a lot of the members were definitely quite odd and sometimes very annoying, I got along decent with most of them.
The first person I really interacted with, along with Asta, was some kid named Magna. He used some pretty impressive fire magic, and watching Asta send his attack right back at him in order to get his robe was quite amusing. But after all was said and done he turned to me. "I'll let you off the hook since you're a girl!" he yelled, his voice loud and raspy, much like Asta's, "But you gotta tell me what type of magic you use!"
I managed a scoff at that comment. "And why should I tell you that?"
"Uhhh, are you stupid? As a squad we have to know each others' abilities! That's how we work together!" he continued to yell, his mohawk swaying as he moved, "And! I'll give you your robe too."
He had a fair point, and the reward was too good to pass up. "I use magic that controls your mind," I told nonchalantly, not feeling as if it were that big of a deal. "But it's not like I'm very good in the realm of attack-"
But before I could even finish what I was saying, I was swarmed by pretty much the entire squad minus Yami, Finral and Gordon, asking about my abilities and what I could do with them and how many spells I'd acquired to be able to do something like that. I looked away, embarrassed. It's not like I was even able to get a new spell since I woke up even though I trained so hard... But still!! Those are just my basic abilities!
But overall, getting to know every one of my squad members, even the more awkward ones, made me feel like I actually belonged. The first member I'd taken a liking to was Vanessa, a witch with long, wavy pink hair who was always drunk and in her underwear. I came to discover that I actually enjoyed drinking alcohol a bit, which was something I had never done before, at least to my knowledge. I had another one of those gut feelings that the person I used to be was forced to be poised and formal all the time, because letting loose and being boisterous and simply, truly myself was the best feeling ever.
As for the others, I found that I actually liked speaking with Finral, although he was such a flirt all the time. Luck was amusing to spend time with too, and I enjoyed speaking with Captain Yami whenever I had the privilege and he wasn't scolding me for something.
Aside from that, I started getting assigned to smaller missions that were always separate from whatever Asta was assigned to do. Many of those missions included dealing with diplomatic issues, since my Mind Magic was so useful at gathering intel. On the occasion that I did have to fight, it was amazingly invigorating being such a useful supporting team member. One particular mission caused me to let everyone know about how I was blind in my right eye, since I'd missed a visual cue from Magna while he was far to my right. Man, I never heard the end of it once everyone found out about my handicap.
Meanwhile, Asta, and the other new recruit named Noelle, who happens to be the youngest sister of braid guy- I mean, the Captain of the Silver Eagles, have been going on such cool missions! Boar hunting, although tedious, sounds so fun! And exploring a dungeon and running into the Diamond Kingdom's insane mages? Cool!
But at the same time, after each mission everyone had to be healed in some way or another. Especially Asta. Something about the whole thing... Made me a bit afraid to go on such missions. But then again, I knew that would be the way to get stronger, learn new spells, and, as Captain Yami frequently said as a way to encourage us, "surpass my limits."

This particular morning, Asta had finally woken up from his long recovery nap after exploring that dungeon. Everyone else was on their normal schedules... Er... Normal for them, at least. Charmy was nothing short of starving, Vanessa was already drunk, and Gauche was having yet another nosebleed because he was staring at pictures of his little sister. Talk about creepy!
