"Fuck, fuck, fuck," JJ whispered

"Fuck, fuck, fuck," JJ whispered. He cranked the throttle of the dirt bike, picking up speed.

The police sirens filled the air, the piercing sound hitting both their ears.

"JJ-" Bexley choked out, in a worried tone.

"I see them!" He checked his mirror. The police car was gaining on them. "Hold on tighter! As tight as you can!"

Suddenly, the fear of riding on a motorcycle returned to her. Terror coursed through her veins. She shut her eyes, and held on. JJ went off road, into the trees. Bexley screamed in surprise as they hit a bump, and the bike jolted. But he kept going. She gripped him tighter and tighter.

"Shit!" JJ yelled as he glanced again at the side mirror. Another cop car came into view, on the other side of the street. He didn't know if this was bad luck, or if they called for backup already. How could they have gotten here so fast?

He continued cutting through the trees, but came to a dangerously abrupt halt when he noticed a steep drop. He skidded to a stop, and Bexley gasped violently, but kept her eyes shut. His heart slammed into his chest as he realized he'd almost gone down the side of a creek bank. They would've dropped twenty five feet before hitting water. He turned the bike, not wanting Bexley to see how far they almost fell.

"Shit, shit, shit!" He banged on the handlebar. He heard running footsteps. The cops must've gotten out of their cars, and were chasing them on foot now.

JJ looked down the small, steep cliff. It was nothing compared to other hills he'd sped down on this exact bike. JJ used to go down hills as fast as he could on his dirt bike for fun, this one would be easy to cross.

He could make it down for sure, he thought. He could ride down the hill, and keep driving at the bottom. He'd done it before. He revved up the bike again.

But then Bexley wrapped her arms tighter around him, and anxiousness hit him. He took his hand off the throttle. And he realized he couldn't do this.

Because he never cared if he crashed before.

But now he did.

Because Bexley was on his bike.

And he'd rather get arrested than her get hurt.

"Hey! Stop right there!" A man hollered. He flinched, not realizing the cops were so close.

JJ thought fast. "Get off!" JJ instructed Bexley. "You can run down the hill, make it out of here, I'll distract them!"

He expected her to run. But she stayed put.

"No!" Bexley said. "I'm not getting off!"

He grit his teeth. Her stubbornness irritated him, and he wondered if this is the emotion he caused other people. "You can get out of here! Go! Get to John B-!"
