(a/n: don't be mad but this is another time skip 😅 IT'S FOR THE PLOT)

MINJI POV

As I stood at my locker looking through the swarm of people rushing in the halls I spotted a familiar short girl with bangs. Her smile was enough for me to spot her in the crowded hall. She was teaching some kids how to work their locks. I missed Hanni, she went back to Australia in the summer and I haven't seen her.

Before I could walk up to her I was grabbed and pulled into one of the classrooms. I freaked out for a second. Who would just grab me like that???

"It's been a while," the stranger said

"Yunjin! Oh my god, you scared me" I say not even trying to hide my disappointment. I wasn't even scared, I was just pissed I couldn't greet my friend.

"Ouuuuuuuu you look cute today, How has your summer been?" she asks me, completely unaware that she interrupted something. I just roll my eyes and answer.

Trying to get Yunjin to walk out of the classroom. We did a lap around the school since it was still early. Sadly I didn't see Hanni anywhere. Being back in school feels so weird. This time last year I was one of the freshmen running around the school with their nervous faces. Now a year older and more experienced I realized I was scared for nothing.

But not this year, nope. Today was amazing, I got to school early, I had coffee, and proper sleep, and my sister didn't annoy me at all. It was too good to be true. I was getting a bit suspicious. Something bad is bound to happen soon.

New year means new people who don't know me. I never really care about my appearance but I need to make a good impression. "Cute" wasn't the look I was going for but it's a start. The bell rings as I say bye to Yunjin and make my way to my first-period class.

I have no idea who's in this class so I sit down beside this guy from my old science class named Jungwon. We engage in small talk as some boy sitting two desks away from me walks up to sit in a seat across the room. I like how there isn't assigned seating anymore. Some kids were not fun to be near. Jungwon was a nice guy, I don't get how anyone could ever hate him.

We were talking about sports, he did taekwondo. I wish my parents put me into martial arts. It's so cool when people are trained to fight. Mid-conversation a guy switches seats and I see someone familiar sitting across from me.

"Psst" I whispered and she looked at me shocked. But gets up to sit with me and Jungwon

"Hey Minji, I didn't know you were in this class," she said while smiling at me with a look of relief on her face. "Hi Jungwon!" she said to the boy beside me.

I swear I knew everyone's schedules. They probably sent them in our group chat but I forgot. I was too busy sleeping to pay attention to the spamming.

"Hi!" I answer, returning the smile. "Why'd you sit here? I thought you were friends with that guy" I say as I point in the direction of Jake

"We're friends but I don't like the other guys he's with" she responds as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

I just nod my head in agreement. Jake's friend group was very questionable. They were like that group of kids that most of the girls wanted but couldn't have because they were out of everyone's league.

Not gonna lie I got sad because she didn't sit here for me, but what can I do about it? I haven't spoken to her since school ended. Yes, we did have the group chat but that was different since all of us were talking. We've never been together without any mutual friend also talking with us. There was an awkward silence that hung in the air so I turned back to Jungwon to resume our conversation.
