It had been weeks since Miguel had seen Peter B.
Peter B hadn't been showing up to work and Lyla, Jess, and Ben refused to tell Miguel why. It was evident that they all knew, yet they refused to spill.
Miguel hadn't realized how lonely he was without him around, but they days were endless and sorrowful. He had Ben and Jess, but they didn't empathize the way Peter B did. They tried, but didn't stick around for long enough. Even Lyla wasn't much of a help.
Miguel would come to work early and leave early. He kept himself busy and spent almost too much time with Gabriella. He was trying to fill his time with whatever he could since Peter B wasn't around to fill it himself.
He knew he was pretty bad that day, and he felt utterly awful for everything he had said and done, but it wasn't like Peter to hold a grudge so cold against Miguel or anyone for that matter. He got so hung up on having Peter B around that it made not having him there extremely difficult. He found his own codependency rather embarrassing.
So when Peter came to HQ that day, Miguel could feel the weight lifted from his shoulders.
Peter B had been walking to the cafeteria when Miguel caught him and jogged over.
"Peter!" He called.
Peter B glanced up, his eyes drooped and his eye bags sagged. He looked tired. So tired.
"Can I talk with you?" Miguel asked when he reached Peter B.
Peter B sighed and agreed.
The two of them walked to the control room together and Peter B sat down hard on the same couch that had fostered their last interaction. Miguel stood standing, or pacing rather.
"Look, I'm, I'm sorry for what I did. I shouldn't have reacted that way and everything you said was true. I want to do better and I know I can be so difficult but I really do want to work on it. I messed up big time and I understand if you don't forgive me but-"
"I forgive you." Peter B said quietly, looking up from where he was slouched on the couch.
"What? Why?" Miguel stopped pacing and looked at him with a quizzical look.
"I don't believe in holding a grudge. It's much easier to forgive and move on. Holding grudges, to me, is extremely immature and childlike. You've apologized and thats all I need. Besides, I've got bigger things to worry about right now."
"What is it? Is it something I can help with?" Miguel was desperate to prove himself to Peter B, something all spiders seemed to be desperate to do.
"Mj and I have a baby now." Peter B said with a tired I-haven't-got-good-sleep-in-ages smile.
"You what?" Miguel looked at Peter B with total shock on his face.
Peter B nodded his head and chuckled quietly, "Its been hard to get any sleep with her caterwauling at two in the morning."
"I bet." Miguel sat down next to Peter B before asking, "whats her name?"
"Mayday, it's kind of silly, it was my idea of course, but we figured that if she didn't like it when she was older she could just go by May. I hope you didn't think I wasn't showing up to work because of you, because shortly after our, disagreement, Mj went into labor and I told Jess, Ben, and Lyla, but not you because I wanted to get to tell you in person. Don't worry, I didn't miss any action. I got the 'okay' from Lyla."
"Of course Lyla played boss for me." Miguel rolled his eyes.
"You gotcha!" Lyla said, appearing in front of them and bowing before disappearing from sight again.
"It was kind of stressful, and if you know me, which you do, I do not take it very well. It was all, 'Oh my God Mj help what do I do?' 'What do you do? How about me!'" Peter laughed waving his hands around frantically in the air.
"And when I saw her for the first time, I couldn't stop crying. You should've seen me! I am not a pretty crier by any means! My head hurt like hell afterwords. I was all 'why didn't I want to be a father?' while sobbing the most ugly tears anyone has ever seen. Honestly, I don't know how Mj puts up with me!" Peter B laughed, sighing out of it at the end.
Miguel softly chuckled, picturing Peter B a heaving mess in the hospital room.
"Is there anything I could do to help?" Miguel asked looked at Peter B.
"Not at the moment, but I was wondering if I could bring her to HQ on occasion? It's just a little hard to balance it with Mj working too." Peter B said sheepishly.
"Thats fine, just keep an eye on her. I don't want her getting hurt. Do you guys want to come over for dinner tonight? It might be easier on you two if you had someone else cooking for you. And Gaby could always use a playmate." Miguel gave a curt smile.
"Really? Are you sure you would be ok with having us on such short notice? Its so last minute! I don't want to interrupt your evening!"
"Please, Peter, I'd love to. If I'm being honest with you, it gets very lonely at points. I suppose I never realized it until you weren't there with me." Miguel admit quietly.
"Well in that case I must keep my dear Miggy company." Peter said sliding over and wrapping Miguel in a rather awkward side hug that Miguel struggled to reciprocate.
"What time works for you?" Peter B asked, pressed up against Miguel's strong side.
"When do you normally eat?" Miguel wanted to be as convenient as possible for Peter B. He knew what it was like with a young kid. It was all about convenience. It had to be, with them not being able to tend to themselves it meant you had to find the easiest option for the both of you.
"It fluctuates based on Mayday, but I would say 6:00 would be great!" Peter B said looking up at Miguel with a content smile.
"Sounds great, Peter."
"I'm glad you retired the whole 'Parker' thing." Peter B teased, standing up and ruffling Miguel's hair, who grunted in protest, trying to smooth out his hair.
"See you soon! Thank you, Miguel. Truly."
