Everlasting Winter

Prologue

Todoroki POV

I lay here with Winter, my pure white husky. Her body stretched over mine her soft head lays upon my chest, her heterochronic eyes looking into mine as if she knows I've had a tough day. I move my hand, so I was able to feel her soft coat under my fingers. She is my lifeline, many things in my life have changed since I got Winter, now bad days end with slobby kisses and cuddles. Panic attacks are stopped before they start. When the voices in my head gets too loud Winter is there to shut them up. And every day I am guided by four paws and love that is unconditional. There are still times when my mind becomes my worst enemy but that's why I have Winter. We may not speak the same language, but she seems to always know when she is needed and what to do. I am forever grateful for what Winter has done for me...

I heard once that one small moment can change a life, and I agree since without Winter I wouldn't be the hero I am today...

I remember the moment as if it was yesterday. The moment Winter was born. I watch as the two Midoriya's switch places. Midoriya's dad, Hisashi puts on a pair of blue latex gloves and gets into the nesting box with Snowflake. They begin to talk faster using more and more medical terminology. I watch them change places several more times, like a they are dancing around Snowflake. It's clear these two have done this dance together before and by the calmness of Snowflake she has seen this dance. My heart begins to pound faster as I sense the first puppy coming. A feeling I can't explain rushes over me, I knew I was about to witness something I haven't seen before but it was more than that, more than a sense of amazement. It was a feeling I had never experienced before in my life. I was about to watch a life begin and instinctively I felt very connected to it.

Hisashi breaks me out of my thoughts, "Todoroki put on a pair of gloves I may need an extra set of hands."

I nod and swiftly grab two gloves out of the box and put them on. I look towards Snowflake and there she was, her first puppy still in the sac on the ground. Snowflake maternal instincts kick in and she grabs the sac with her mouth and motion towards me. I put out my hands, they were shaking like a leaf but then I look at Snowflake and feel suddenly calm.

"Well, that's never happened before. Izuku, are you seeing this?"

"Yes, Dad this is very unexpected '"

I feel as though I was watching myself as Snowflakes moves to me and puts the sac into my hands. I feel her confidence in me to care for her new puppy and bow slightly acknowledging this generous act.

"She is asking you to remove the sac. Each puppy is enclosed in a sac that is part of the placenta or afterbirth."

"Izuku. English."

Izuku comes closer pointing at my hands, "Snowflake wants you to remove the slim."

I swiftly grab one of the small blue towels, I nod and start gently wiping down the small puppy. After a few seconds I was in awe as I realize the puppy coat is all white. I smile down at the small creature who nestles into my hands. After the large fragments of the sac are removed, Snowflake moves next to me and licks her new puppy.

"Dad we should cut the cord, the other puppies will be coming soon."

Midoriya looks at me, "Right. English."

I interrupted him, "Yes, the umbilical cord connects the baby to the mother's placenta. After birth, the cord is clamped and cut off."

Midoriya and Hisashi stare at me momentarily, "So you do know a little about this." Midoriya smiles at me.

"I've seen it in one of the books I've been reading."

Hisashi grabs a pair of surgical scissors and the clamp. He looks at Snowflake as if to get permission and then clamps and cuts the cord. She now rests freely in my hands.
