"Has a Grisha every escaped?"Alina than asks and I snort. Yes. Numerous times. I wanted to tell her.
"Planning on making a break for it?"General Kirigin spoke appearing out of nowhere nearly making me scream in fright but I end up bumping into Alina who looks surprised. Glancing behind us before at the General who stares at us two. Alina lifts up her veil and I do the same tired of it blocking my eyes.
"Uh, I didn't mean to..."she trails off glancing at me before at him too stunned. We turn the exit where the grand palace comes in view. "Oh, saints!"Alina stares in surprise.
"I think the grand palace is the ugliest building I've ever seen."Said the General as we walk towards the palace. "How was your rest?"he asks Alina.
"Restless."She answered as we walk down a few steps. "Despite's Genya's magic, I didn't——"
"It's not magic."The general cuts her off. "It's science. Or rather, small science. We manipulated that which already exists around us."
I look around as the two talk. Maybe if I make a run for it I can escape. I mean it's worth a try. I glance at the general who stares at me with a raises eyebrow as if he knows what I'm thinking. Never mind.
"You make it sound so easy."Alina says glancing at the general.
"A bird makes flight easy."The general replies looking away. "But it was born to do so."He turns his head back at the girl who was already staring at him. I eye the two. I could practically see love radiating off the two. I scrunch my nose up and look away.
"When it's ready."She says.
"So, be ready."They continue to stare at each other before Alina looks away.
"You're asking me to do something I didn't even know I could do three days ago."Alina tells him and he stops walking and turns to us making Alina and stop as well.
"Do you really believe I brought you both here to make a fool of you?"He asks us both. "To make a fool of three of us?" Alina and I glance at each other.
"Just keep your focus on me. And you'll be fine."He tells us both and I quickly shake my head.
"Wait."I spoke up glancing at the two before looking at the general. "Why do I have to see the king? I thought we agreed that you wouldn't show me to the King until I'm ready, so why now?"
The general stares at me. "Because the King has waited too long for you, he got impatient and wanted to see you, now."
I gulp nervously. "B-but I can't control my powers. What if I loose control and end up burning down the palace?"I ramble, I than widen my eyes. "I'm going to burn the palace down, I'm going to get everyone killed!"I continue.
"Irina-"
"oh saints! I can't go in yet I'm not ready."
"Irina."
"I have to learn how to control my powers and than I'll be ready, not now!"
"Irina!"
"What?"I snap and looking at the general who looks at me in worry.
"Calm down, your eyes are glowing."He tells me and I widen my eyes. I could see Alina staring at me in surprise and concern. I take a deep breath and close my eyes.
"I'm calm, I'm calm."I tell myself exhaling through my nose. After a moment of calming myself down I open my eyes and look at the general who waits patiently.
"Are you okay, now?"he questions and I nod my head in response. He nods. "Like I said, just keep your focus on me."he tells me before continuing.
"Once he sees what you both can do and we have his blessing, you will remain here to train with Irina."he glances at me.
"His Blessing?"Alina questions. "I thought you ruled the Grisha."
"I may lead the second army, but the king is still the king."He answers Alina before walking to the grand palace. Alina and I glance at each other before following after him.
