"I'm worried - even if they didn't succeed this time, that doesn't mean that they don't have a back-up plan." Alfred said with concern. For his own, and public reasons, he didn't want a criminal investigator sent by the headquarters to become a victim in a case he was responsible for. "You need to strengthen your protection measures. Leo, I will send additional people to stay with you 24 hours."

"No, thank you. I don't need bodyguards." Leo refused. "My personal safety hasn't thinned to such degree and besides, there's also Rob."

The green-eyed partner immediately stated, "We will act together until the case is over."

"But two people seem a bit short, isn't it?" Alfred tried to convince them "If you don't want to add another one, there is a self-recommended person who wants to join this operation. Anthony Querot, the instructor of free-hand combat in our branch. Don't mention about his fist, I heard that his play in tactical knives and firearms are not bad."

Leo's face sank, "Can you pass these words to him: 'Fuck off, stay away from me!' "

Rob clicked his tongue and winked at Alfred, "Oh look, it seems that someone deeply offended our handsome man! I've known him for a year and I haven't seen him so angry with anyone!"

The older and affable Jewish officer felt a little embarrassed and explained: "I heard that you and Anthony had worked together in the New York branch before, so I thought ... " He looked at Leo's increasingly somber complexion, and immediately set the topic aside, "No matter what, let Mike follow you. This guy is very clever and motivated; let him learn something from you."

Leo had a good impression of the mixed young Black agent, and reluctantly agreed. He saw that the clock on the wall was already pointing at ten o'clock, so he patted Li Biqing's arm and urged, "You should go back." He then requested to Alfred "Can you please ask someone to give him a ride?"

"No problem."

The young man asked, "What about you and Rob?"

"We won't go back to that house for the time being." Leo answered concisely.

Li Biqing immediately understood the unexplained scruples. In general, serial killers won't give up so easily on their carefully selected targets- especially professional-level killers like Evans who are proud of their skills. Today's attack was unsuccessful, and there's likely a next time. Leo was afraid of involving him too.

He couldn't help but hold the agent's arm tightly, and his round and warm doe-like eyes were filled with deep concern, "Leo, you'll be fine, right?"

The latter's face bloomed a gentle smile, "Of course. I'll be more careful."

"Then swear!" The Chinese boy stared at him anxiously, "You swear to me and Molly that you will protect yourself and to never get hurt again!"

His eyes made Leo feel a real pain from the bottom of his heart. If it weren't for the two people present, he would've hold the boy tightly in his arms and whisper soothing words to his ears, thousands of times. But now, he could only say in his most reliable smile and natural tone, "Yes, I swear, to you and to my sister Molly."

Even though he knew that this was only some sort of consolation, Li Biqing still felt relieved, as if there was a special magic in the other person's words, that he couldn't help but believe and support him. "Well, do whatever you want. Call me if you need anything. I'll keep my phone on for 24 hours."
