"--Why am I the bait?" Daniel protested immediately.

"Because you are not as good as me." was the other man's immediate reply.

Daniel closed his mouth in anger.

They found a suitable spot to make a trap. In fact, they didn't have to work hard to dig some [pits or the like- they just had to make good use of the surrounding trees.

Along the designed escape route, Luo Yi made several side-blow pitfall: a grid of sharpened branches tied with cane bark rope, concealed flat with the two corners fixed for camouflage; rattan rope through the middle of the grid, one end is fixed and the other end is concealed around the trunk of the big tree , tied with a heavy object; and then a live rattan buckle tied between the rattan rope fixing point and the grid.

Should a large prey step on it by mistake and pull the cane rope, the two rows of sharp branches on the grid would slam from both sides,, enough to puncture several small arm-thick blood holes on a human body. To be on the safe side, he used the same method to do two strikes from above and below to ensure the success rate of hunting.

At about ten o'clock in the morning, Daniel poked his head out of the bushes by the side of the road and walked warily for ten minutes before he heard the sound of a car engine approaching fast.

""

Fuck, those people have noses like that of a dog! He feared that he would be within the rifle range, so he immediately fled into the woods.

The off-road vehicle stopped on the side of the road, and the two men who jumped out of it immediately chased after him while shooting.

Daniel swerved through the lush vegetation, the poor terrain severely slowing him down. He nearly fell several times, and could even smell the gunpowder that grazed his scalp.

As he ran towards the trap area, he cursed the two armed men who were chasing behind him as well as Luo Yi, who had forced him to participate in the execution of this stupid idea.

If I get shot, I'll become a ghost and fucking haunt you! He swore viciously, then he finally saw the Tree Heliotrope that served as a marker, so he pretended to fall, stumbled over the hidden trap, and rolled behind another large tree.

The hunters in hot pursuit did follow.

Running ahead was the bodyguard in camouflage who probably never expected that he would be countered by unarmed, tired and hungry human-animals. He unsuspectingly stepped on a cane rope and two rows of sharp branches came whirling down on him from left and right.

In the nick of time, the bodyguard exerted his superior combat ability- while holding his gun, he rolled forward to dodge the branches in a thrilling manner.

Unfortunately, the inertia drove him forward for a few meters, leading him to fall into the second trap.

The deadly spikes fell from the sky, piercing through the flesh and blood, and it firmly anchored him to the ground.

All of this happened within three seconds- the hunter in the hunting suit who was following his bodyguard was still standing dumbfounded, as if he hadn't yet realized at all what was going on.

Then, a paring knife suddenly stabbed his neck deeply, which easily severed his carotid artery and trachea. He clutched his gurgling throat that was constantly spraying blood, incredulity frozen on his face. As he fell heavily backwards onto the ground, the fuzzy spots of light that penetrated through the canopy of the trees kept jumping like frightened animals in his eyes, until he finally stopped breathing, without even seeing his assailant.

"One down." Luo Yi said flatly while wiping the blood off the blade with his sleeve.

Daniel stepped out from behind a tree, and he looked at Luo Yi with a complicated expression, "Are you... a Hitman?" he asked.

Luo Yi thought for a while and shook his head, "I don't make money off of this."

He tossed the cleaned paring knife to the other man, "When you're done with it, give it back." He took off his own red-orange overalls, bent down and stripped off the dead hunter's gear and clothes and wore it in exchange.

He got a Winchester hunting rifle with a scope, a Colt semi-automatic pistol, a German knife, and a dagger. He took off the cowboy hat from the corpse's head , put it on himself and whistled lightly, "Let's go, let's find the second one."

Daniel pulled out the spiked wooden stick that had nailed the bodyguard, looked at the several fist-sized holes and the blood-stained camouflage suit, and said depressingly, "I don't want to wear this."

"Then find the car key. They should have some spare clothing on their off-road vehicle."

Daniel skillfully stripped off the bodyguard's camouflage uniform, dug a random hole and buried it while he only covered the corpse with dead branches and leaves. Under such humidity and temperature, microorganisms would multiply rapidly, and it wouldn't take more than a few days for the dead body to decompose beyond recognition.

He pocketed the car keys, and when he turned back, he saw Luo Yi cutting the cane ropes and destroying the other traps that hadn't been triggered yet. "Why bother? Just treat it as a person's bad luck to whoever steps on it." He paused, then continued, "Maybe it can nail another hunter to death."

"It could also be the innocents," Luo Yi said.

"Whateve-" Daniel suddenly stopped, and he tilted his head to once again examine the young Asian in front of him with a playful glint in his eyes, "Oh, you're not a Hitman. Professional killers don't have such useless uh....how shall I put it.... kindness? Goodness? God, I really don't believe that a person who could kill without blinking could have such sentiments... Say, are you a cop?"

"No." Luo Yi denied.

But it looked like Daniel had already decided otherwise. He just shook his head with a grin and walked towards the vehicle.

He found spare bullets, and a camouflage uniform from the off-road vehicle. He then used it to change out of the dirty orange overalls.

When Luo Yi arrived at the car, Daniel was listening to some rock music on the radio while gobbling down a chicken burger.

The aroma of normal food stimulated Luo Yi's sense of smell, "Any remaining food?" he asked.

Daniel shook his head, "All that's left is the wrapper, the food itself is probably in that bodyguard's stomach." He deliberated for a few seconds, before finally deciding to pull out the warm, juicy, fragrant chicken thigh from between the two slices of bread and stuffed it into Luo Yi's mouth unwillingly.

"....Thanks." Luo Yi said with Daniel's fingers still in his mouth.

At this moment, Daniel felt that the "appetite" he had for this person, which he had given up previously, came back.

Shit, this guy is a cop! Those guys are my enemies, be it in the past or future!

The former gang leader reminded himself with chagrin: Think of the FBI that paid off informants and set up a trap to catch you! Think of all the years you suffered in prison! Remember how broke you were when you finally managed to get out! How can you be nice to an undercover police officer!

At this moment, he felt an intense anger in his heart-towards himself, towards the man sitting next to him, and to the whole damn world.

I wish I could blow this island up with a missile ...... he thought darkly as he started the off-road vehicle.
